As robo said, hte official language is English, but we dont mind you using sinhalese in between..

Also there is a seperate section for Sinhala only members which u may have noticed Wink

Tamil members may use Tamil but the threads will only be replied by the crowd who can understand Tamil language..
Therefore; if you have the English writing skills, pls stick to that.

Welcome aboard!!!

Dear lemuria,

Nothing happen if your post is replied in a different language. I think rules and restrictions are not needed to control it. Any member has freedom to use any language.(English and Sinhala only Wink ).

If you want to inform very important message to all members, it is better to post it in English because all members don't have sinhala unicodes to display sinhala letters. Very Happy

Am not a racist. No No But the attitude in which the dialog was brought to the thread had racism. Tell me who has a problem with the official language of the forum. Most of the threads are in English and you can rarely find a Sinhala thread. Any person with a common sense can understand that the forum is in English. Do you need to create a thread to officially ask the official language of the forum???? Evil or Very Mad

Who has that kind of attitude in this country, with my mother tongue??? And another thing :
for example if I go to Chinese forum where English and Chinese languages are both used ;do you ask what is the official language of the forum ?? Wink

I should be able to understand that in a Chinese forum majority are Chinese so both languages are official and a question like “what is the official language of the forum ??” is not a valid question to ask. if I ask a question like that I should have a sarcastic purpose. scratch

I think otherwise ma friend. How would you feel if one of your question answered in a different language? So posts started with ENGLISH should be answered in English & links of any language accepted. And a post started in a language otherthan english could be answered in any language. Ok mate? Wink

how on earth you say official language of sri lanka is sinhala? What a pity you are. How illeterate you are on the matters of general language?

for u to literate yourself see this Wink

The Department of Official Languages at present functions as a facilitator for the effective implementation of the language policy as enshrined in the articles 18 and 19 – Chapter IV of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka (1978) that recognizes Sinhala and Tamil as national languages and English as the link language.

I think it's not better. You propose to add restrictions to Sinhala. But your point is right. So it is better to start English only section. The posts in that sections should be answered only in English.
@lemuria, @STOCK SLAYER I think both of you can agree with this. We don't need any more fight in this forum.
personally I believe all the members in this forum can understand sinhala. But if it is wrong, the proposed solution will will give better answer.

Your question is not a racist question but a sarcastic question which implements racism in a sarcastic way. And I will not comment on this issue "North & east of Sri Lanka should not be a tamil concentrated area"
due to this topic is still a strategic political agenda in the country. Exclamation

In chapter IV article 18 clearly says that the official language shall be Sinhala. king

And in article 19 clearly it implements that the national languages of Sri Lanka shall be Sinhala and Tamil. Sleep

Lemuria for your information ; English is not recognized as a national language of Sri Lanka. affraid I think your literacy is lagging between what is official and what is national……….. confused

No! starting a new section for english only posts is useless and it will cause jumbling of posts! Any member has freedom to use any language both sinhala and english in any section except sinhala section. Please stop this argument.
The only requirement is your posts should be understandable and clear to everyone always.
