Where do the Captain's derive their cash to buy billions of stock? Is it just stocks or do they have other ventures?

They have their own businesses. Paints and General Industries. They also control CIC. They have been collecting shares for last 40-50 years. Sohli Captain is the Warren Buffet of Sri-Lanka.

The lesson:

Once you established a solid business entity you can use the money generated to expand it and/or acquire new entities without much difficulty.

This is only if you are wise enough to control your desires and not to lose your wealth by ..... gambling.. sex.... bottles....

10,000,000 > 10 x 1,000,000

To the best of my knowledge, this is how it began!

Solhi's father was a manager at the Wellawatte spinning & weaving mills in the late 1950's early 1960's. Subsequently Solhi also joined. When the mill condemned and sold off some of its machinery as scrap, Solhi left his job, bought the machines got them repaired and started off as an entrepreneur. He has built up his empire from this!
Truly an amazing man!

Hopefully Rushi & the rest will continue the trend many decades to come.

However sometimes it’s difficult to fill your predecessor's shoes ( when they already achieved a tremendous success from very little resources). Neutral

We all know that almost all the famous singers sons never managed to go lager than their fathers phenomenal success. However it does not say they are not good but people tend to compare what they are doing against their predecessors.

undoubtedly most of us admire what Sohli has achieved in his life. Untill very recently just a handful of people know who he is.
