JKL is 87% owned by JKH, so free float is low - only 40,000 shares needed to be in Top 20 shareholders at 31/12/10.

Its book value per share was Rs44 at 31/12/10, and it owns the JKH head office at Glennie Street, Col 2. Land last revalued in FY09.

JKL 9mth net profit up 66% yoy to Rs237 mn as at 31/12/10, with stockbroking unit (76% owned JK Stock Brokers) doing very well - 9mth EPS was Rs8 based on 30.4 mn shares in issue now. With stock market doing well, and JK Stock Brokers also doing private placements in Free Lanka and Expo, company has benefited.

Final dividend is expected to be announced soon - JKL paid Rs10 dividend last year (on a FY10 profit of Rs230 mn, EPS of Rs15.3 - before split), although 1 into 2 share split has followed in FY11.

All in all though, based on quick look at fundamentals, cannot say that current share price of Rs230 is a huge bargain - but one potential catalyst to consider is whether stock broking subsidiary JKSB will be sold to JKH's commercial bank associate NTB in longer term.

If it is only for this reason today's run, then all i can ask is whether is it justifiable for the todays maximum price between 248 to 249, more than 40/= high compare yesterday's price

It is amazing how the market responds to a dividend announcement. The dividend announced is only Rs. 5 and people are ready to pay a premium of Rs 20 to get this.

Also almost in all instances, we can notice the fluctuation in price before the announcement is officially made. This means, in all these instances, the information is leaked!!!
