Well .... can agree that PLANTATION STOCKS are placed in a lower valuation plane ... but can any one justify it should be traded as lower as PER less than 6, MAL trades even less than PER 5 (i.e. PER 4.42).

e.g.
MAL currently trades at PER 4.42
If you agree Plantation Stocks are to traded at PER 10, still MAL discounted about 55%
well ... If Plantation Stocks are to traded at PER 8, still MAL discounted about 45%

Please refer the attached worksheet to do your own calculations & comparisons.... hope it will help you to identify VALUE STOCKS.

I think people will need to be patient with these shares. After august there will most likely be a plantation run. until then the rain & decline of world rubber prices is keeping people away from these shares. atleast that is what i think is going on.

+ from me, I like these kind of all-in-one valuations.

To me Plantation sector PE is around 8 and yes MAL is hugely undervalued at current price.

At the first instance the attachement was not properly attached. Then I tried again, but both were published.

MAL.N is a one of the favorite shares of mine and it is trading at a discount. I quit on 120s and entered again 9.80-10.20 range.

However, I believe that Malwatte is a lousy company. They earn money but very greedy to give a better dividend. Last year 2009 there EPS is 14+ (as I remember) and the dividend was only a Rs 1.00 payout is less than 10% (Isn't this greedy) without any expansion plans.

This year (2010) EPS is 18.90 (or 1.90) but yet to declare a dividend. 1Q earnings are out and EPS is around 40 cents. Though they have this big plan to embark on a tourism project in Maldives. They should at least give 50 cents for their shareholders. It is Rs 5.00 in previous terms. I do not know whether greedy board will agree to this...

If they do.. That will be delightful news for you and me...
