Yes, price of those stocks you mentioned could go up. But we must find out the reasons before you buy. Blindly no one should buy shares. Isn't it?

Drastic drop in indices displays the continuous interest on penny stocks with day to day paltry gain enjoyed by retailers ignoring the fundamentals & technical aspects as well. In my opinion the current trend may continue as this trend is largely supported by high end speculators who enjoy the big chunk of the daily gain. It will be havoc in the market without interference from the CSE to monitor & regulate the current situation. Cheers.

I think, the main reason would be the two massive IPOs.

1. Current shares are very overvalued (even now, see 2.)
2. Companies don't have consistent profit growth when you remove one-time gains and asset revaluations.
3. New shares coming into market in the next few weeks and months
4. No new money

Dear insidertrader,I cant agree with all 4 points you mentioned in your post friend. All those foctors are applied to a Down ward economy.Srilanka is not so . SL is now one of the countries that has recorded a higher GDP growth rate in the world.. Our economy is expanding annualy by over 8%. Export income is increasing rapidly.Domestic market is expanding to former war regions. People's purchasing power is also increasing. Invetment capacities are enhancing. Large number of development project are underway. IMF repeatedly releasing funds. Infrastructure development is taking place. Per capita has surpassed us $ 2500(which was below 1000 just 5 years ago)

With all above positive signs of the Economy no one can predict a blast in the Stock market.

If you need an example checkout the size of goods. Now we have tiny sachets of washing powder, shampoo, even milk powder. Companies introduce new and improved product but the size has got small. Now we have budget packs. We have buddy packs. Everything is getting tiny but the prices are going up. We can see the buying power of people. Companies have hard time selling their products. I invested in FMCG and retail sector thinking they will grow after war. Unfortunately those sectors were not doing well.
Secondly foreigners invest directly in the country. They will not buy shares in a hotel share in the share market. They will build a new hotel competing with what is out there. And if they are generous enough they may sell us some shares through an IPO. Smile

DEAR INSIDERTRADER, PRODUCING OF SMALL PACKS IS A MARKETING STRATEGY MY FRIEND, LEVERS INTRODUSED THEIR SMALER SHAMPOO PACK IN 1980 S. WITH THE RECENT DEVELOPMENT OF PACKAGING INDUSTRY NOW THIS HAS BECOME MORE POPULAR AND EVEN SMIs COULD DO THAT. THATS ALL.

When the country's economy recorded a growth of 8% per annum, the stock market recorded more than 100%. I think that should explain everything.

Interesting. At 8% growth it takes 9 years to catch up with 100% instant growth.

Stock market: 100 -> 100% in 1 year -> 200
Economy: 100 -> 8% in 9 years -> 200

Note: 8% is the government's expected value.
