Dec 21, 2011 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's stock brokers welcome a decision by the Central Bank to lift a 5.0 percent ceiling imposed on margin loans for capital market activities following a meeting with President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Brokers hail anything that will make them get their commission. If you buy and sell they get commission, If you make or loose money they get their commission.

Only thing is they need more transaction. Every "Investment Adviser" gets a percentage of the broker commission that you pay.

The sad part is large percentage of them are so called "school leavers". No experience at all. They do the exam and become "Advisers". I am telling this by experience. A guy I knew knows how to fundamentally analyze a company but knows nothing about technical analysis. So, he does not know when to enter and exit from the market. This guy works in a top brokering firm handling clients. Sad

Seriously! My "Investment adviser" is a very young guy......I'm guessing he must be aged around 20,21. He talks to me like a boss. He thinks he knows everything. But he doesn't! He has been wrong about his predictions may times and never been correct.
I think there should be strict rules for minimum requirements to be an investment adviser. Simply passing an exam isn't good enough at all! SEC is trying hard to regulate the market....but acts blindly when it comes to these kid of matters.

In fact this is a very encouraging news. From january we can see upward trend in the market.

I think this will have no impact on the market. according o the banks (I worked in one) they have excess credit for margin lending even at 5%. One bank alone has over 5 billion in possible margin lending and despite everything not enough clients. The CB gave this as they know it's a non starter and this is a easy way to make them look good in the eyes of investors.
