Dialog Business Services (Pvt) Ltd (DBS) entered into a Principal Agreement with the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) to establish and operate an IT Enabled Services venture serving domestic and global markets, Colombo Stock Exchange filing said.

The operations of DBS will be seeded through the transfer of the contact centre operations of Dialog Axiata PLC, to its fully owned subsidiary.

It is envisaged that DBS will be fully operational by April 1.

The CSE filing further said the contact centre operation of Dialog Axiata (DBS going forward) has the distinction of being the first Sri Lankan contact centre to receive International BPO industry standard COPC certification.

Dialog Axiata is confident that DBS will grow to be an industry leading and internationally competitive IT Enabled Services (ITES) provider operating under the aegis of the BOI. Dialog Axiata will actively pursue potential catalysts of growth and competitiveness in the ITES sphere, including but not limited to the identification of a world class BPO and ITES player as a joint venture partner in DBS.

Telecommunication Industry in Sri Lanka will be comlemented with the Growth of IT industry. Communication infrastructure should be in place for the IT sector growth. So its going to help the grwoth of Dialog, SLTL ..ect in future

The growing need for robust IT solutions will be driven by eGovernment (Government Services online for example utility bills payment, traffic fines and applying for tourist visas online) and eCommerce initiatives in future. We can see recent positive moves from SL Government for ICT growth

http://www.lankabusinessonline.com/fullstory.php?nid=398748029..............The plan also proposes maintaining rates of taxes at the lowest possible level during the next six years to encourage the growth of ICT and business process outsourcing ventures which are emerging as an import export earner.

(http://www.srilankaequity.com/2011/01/sri-lanka-to-be-one-of-fastest-growing.html)……..In August 2010, Sri Lankan Deputy Finance and Planning Minister Dr Sarath Amunugama said that IT would play an important role in helping the government to achieve its targets for growth. The Minister called on foreign IT companies to invest in Sri Lanka and partner with the government to apply IT to assist development. The Sri Lankan government's e-Sri Lanka strategy outlines the country's vision for information society development and forms the basis for initiatives related to ICT development (http://www.srilankaequity.com/2011/01/sri-lanka-to-be-one-of-fastest-growing.html)

Broad Band infrastructure plans (Daily news)
Sri Lanka suffers from a very low level of internet penetration, at just 6.4% at the end of 2008. Broadband penetration was 0.5%. This low penetration level reflects the parlous state of Sri Lanka's telecoms infrastructure as a result of years of civil war. This situation has been identified by the government as a major barrier to future social and economic development.

Progress is expected over BMI's five-year forecast period, with internet penetration reaching 26%, and broadband penetration 13%. In recent years, the government has announced broadband infrastructure rollout plans and also encouraged the deployment of technologies such as WiMAX and Wi-Fi. However, adoption remains limited.
