Tourism earnings in the first seven months of the year increased by 24.2% year on year (YoY) to US$ ($) 560.4 million, while arrivals in the review period grew more slowly, by 16.7% YoY to 543,205, Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) statistics showed.

In other developments, rubber production in the first six months of the year increased marginally by 0.1% YoY to 80.8 million kilos, while coconut production rose sharply by 12% YoY to 1,495.5 million nuts during the review period.

Meanwhile some major import prices reflected in CBSL statistics suffered declines in June. Those were crude oil import prices declining by 13.1% YoY to $ 97 per barrel (CIF), wheat import prices by 11.8% YoY to $ 309 per metric ton ((pmt) CIF), white sugar prices by 17.6% YoY to to $ 574 pmt CIF and rice by 22.6% YoY to $ 649 pmt CIF.
