The true meaning of this most abused word Jihad is to "overcome your own fears and weaknesses" and not throw stones at someone or something in protest after the Juma Prayer, as it happened in most cases.
See how the Jihad would fit in this context and see what we can do collectively and individually to avert such a tragedy again here or anywhere.

What our Govt should do is stop sending our women to maid positions in these countries. These countries cannot do anything when it comes to executing their law.
People are ppl, all have same rights. And if their law is not impartial and natives are given an upper-hand then its up to the govt to decide whether we put our own nation in trouble by sending them to these countries or not.
Living with poverty is better than facing consequences.

The Muslim Council of Sri Lanka (MCSL) expressed their condolences for Saudi Arabia’s decision to execute Rizana Nafeek. The Council also expressed their shock at the failure of the infant’s parents for not pardoning Rizana, which is an option available to them under Islamic law and which is strong encouraged in the Quran.
The Council further accused the infant’s family for entrusting a minor (Rizana, at that time was 17 years of age) to take care of a four month old baby, which they described as ‘unfit’.
The MCSL also wished to appeal from Saudi Arabia to release a copy of the judicial proceedings for for Sri Lankan experts to study and advise all those seeking employment in Saudi Arabia to be well advised on how to avoid similar situations in the future.

Discipline is a need, but Sharia law is too much.. However, we dont have a say when this law is considered the "Gods law" in these countries.

As Sri Lankans, we should, however, be more vigilant sending our ppl to these countries. There are plenty of examples they took us as second class;
Here we dont oppose following any religion but when ur in Arab countries, u cant practice Buddhism. One SL guy got caught worshiping budda and now he's in prison waiting for his sentence. U never know what would happen, it will not end with Rizana's case.
A rule like this is ridiculous, cuz everyone has a right to follow their own religion imo.

So the prudent thing is, as u also said, stop sending our ppl to these countries completely or limit as much as possible.
Its better to live in poverty than landing in an alien country and getting one's head lose.

i am not against the death penalty ...but against the lack of transparency in their judicial system...they should have the punishments as it is but the method must be their assure the innocents are spared.

First of all this footage is not Rizana's beheading. But anyhow we can assume, Rizana also beheaded in a similar way. However, we should note one thing. They have beheaded in public not to entertain the public. But others to discourage to do same crime. That's why countries in the Middle East has less crime compare to other countries.

I we don't discourage, we may hear many crime stories in the media. Husband may kill his wife and two kids and burn it. Boy friend may kill his girl friend near fort railway bridge. They know, they can escape from verdict. I strongly believe killing is ideal punishment murder, rape and drug trafficking.

මේ වන විට රිසානාගේ මව සිය වැඩිමහල් දියණිය නැති සොවින් රෝගාතුරව සිටින්නීය. රිසානා මරා දමන විට රෝහල්ගතව ප්‍රතිකාර ලබමින් සිටි ඇගේ පියාටද හරි හැටි සුවයක් නැත. ශරීරයට වඩා ලෙඩ වී ඇත්තේ ඔවුන්ගේ හදවතය. තම දියණියගේ හිස කඳින් වෙන් කළ පුවත මවුපියන්ගේ හදවත් පළා දමන්නට ඇත. තම දරුවාගේ මිය යෑමට එක්තරා මවක් තවත් මවකගෙන් පළිගත්තේ රිසානාගේ හිස කඳින් වෙන් කිරීමට බල කිරීමෙනි. සියල්ල හමාර වූයේ රිසානාගේ හිස කඳින් වෙන් වී දැයි යන්න අපි නොදන්නෙමු. ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ මුස්ලිම් කටයුතු පිළිබඳ ජනාධිපති උපදේශක ආචාර්ය එම්.ජී.එම්.එස්. සුර්ෆික් මහතා ඒ පිළිබඳ පවසන්නේ මෙසේය.

"රිසානා මැරුවේ කොහොමද කියලා ජාත්‍යන්තර මානව හිමිකම් ආයතනය මඟින් සොයා ගැනීමට අප ඉක්මනින් කටයුතු කළ යුතුයි. රිසානාගේ ගෙල සිරකර මැරුවාද? එල්ලා මැරුවාද? හිස ගසා දැමුවාද? යන්න අපි තවමත් දන්නේ නෑ. සාමාන්‍යයෙන් මුස්ලිම් නීතියට අනුව ණයක් ගත්තත් ඒ ණය ගන්න සහ ණය දෙන පුද්ගලයන් දෙදෙනා ඉදිරිපිට සාක්ෂිකරුවන් දෙදෙනකු සිටීම අනිවාර්යක්. රිසානා මරා දමන විට සාක්ෂිකරුවන් දෙදෙනකු සිටියාද යන්න සෞදි රජය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට හෙළි කර නැහැ. සිටියා නම් ඒ කවුරුන්ද යන්න දැන ගැනීම ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ අපට ඇති අයිතියක්"

රිසානා මිය ගිය පසු ඇගේ මරණය කළේ කෙසේද යන්න සොයා බැලීම නොවටිනේ යැයි ඇතැමෙකුට සිතිය හැකිය. නමුත්, මරණයකට සාධාරණය ඉෂ්ට කිරීමේ අයිතිය තවමත් අප අතින් ගිලිහී නොමැත. ඉන්දියාවේ සාහසිකයන් අතින් දූෂණය වී මියගිය නිර්භීතා සමස්ත ඉන්දියාවේම දියණියක වූවා මෙන් රිසානාද මේ වන විට ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ දියණිය වී හමාරය. ඉතින්, ඇගේ මරණයටත් ඇගේ අසරණ මවුපියන්ගේ ජීවිතවලට සහනයක් ලබාදී ඇගේ අහිංසක ප්‍රාර්ථනාවලටත් යුක්තිය ඉටු කරදීම රටේම වගකීම වන්නේය.
ආචාර්ය සුර්ෆික් ඉදිරිපත් වී සිටින්නේ ශ්‍රී ලංකා මානව හිමිකම් කොමිසමට පැමිණිලි කොට රිසානාගේ මරණය ගැන පූර්ණ වාර්තාවක් සෞදි රජයෙන් ලබා ගැනීමටය.

හෙතෙම පවසන පරිදි 2005 රිසානා අතින් සෞදියේ කුඩා බිලිඳු දරුවකු මිය ගිය පුවත කනවැකීමත් සමඟ රිසානාගේ නිදහස වෙනුවෙන් ඔහු පෙනී සිට ඇත. සුර්ෆික් මහතා කලකට ඉහත ජපානයේ මැණික් ව්‍යාපාරිකයකු ලෙස කටයුතු කර ඇත්තෙකි. වර්තමානයේ හෙතෙම මුස්ලිම් කටයුතු සම්බන්ධයෙන් ජනාධිපති මහින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මහතාගේ උපදේශකයකු ලෙස කටයුතු කරයි.

සැවොම දන්නා පරිදි ඔහු පවසන්නේ ආරාබියේ නිවෙස්වල පවුලේ සාමාජිකයකු අතින් කිසිවක් නැති වූ විට එහි දඬුවම ලැබෙන්නේ නිවෙසේ මෙහෙකරුවා හෝ මෙහෙකාරියට බවයි. රිසානාට අත්වූයේද ඒ හා සමාන ඉරණමක් බව සුල්ෆික් මහතා අනාවරණය කරන්නේ මෙසේය.

"රිසානා අතින් වරදක් සිදු වූ බව දැනගත් මොහොතේ සිටම නිවෙසේ අයිතිකරුවන් ඇයට පහර දී තිබෙනවා. නිවෙසේ ස්වාමියා ඇයට පහර දී තිබෙන්නේ බඳ පටියකින්. පහරදීම කෙතරම් දරුණු එකක්ද කියනවා නම් රිසානාගේ නාසයෙන් ලේ එන්නට ඔවුන් පහර දී තිබුණා. රිසානා අහිංසක දැරිය පොලිසියට බැගෑපත් වී තිබෙන බව මා දන්නවා. අෑ වෙනුවෙන් ඒ මොහොතේ සිටම මෙරට බලධාරීන් කටයුතු කළ යුතු ක්‍රමවේදය ඉතා පැහැදිලි එකක්. ජිනීවාහි මානව හිමිකම් ප්‍රඥප්තියේ නීතියට අනුව කුමන සිදුවීමකදී කිසියම් රටකට අයත් පුද්ගලයකු විදේශයකදී සිරගත කරනු ලැබූ විට විදෙස් පොලිසියට බලපෑම් කළ යුත්තේ තම රටට අයත් තානාපති කාර්යාලය හරහා. රිසානා සම්බන්ධයෙන් මෙවන් සිදුවීමක් වූ විට පැනනැඟුණු පළමු ගැටලුව වූයේ ඇය ළමා මෙහෙකාරියක් වීම. රටේ බලධාරීන් පළමුව කළ යුතුව තිබුණේ 1988 දී උපන් ඇය 1982දී උපන්නේ නැති බව ඔප්පු කිරීම. නමුත් එසේ වූයේ නෑ. රිසානා වඩාත් හොඳට හැසිරවූ භාෂාව දෙමළ නමුත්, අෑ කියන දේ පරිවර්තනය කළේ මලයාලි පරිවර්තකයෙක්. ඔහුට හරිහැටි දෙමළ දන්නේ නෑ."

ආචාර්ය සුර්ෆික් මහතා කියන්නේ මවක ලෙස සෞදි නීතියට අනුව ඔතාබි නෝනා අපරාධ දෙකක් කොට ඇති බවය. එහි ප්‍රධානම අපරාධය වන්නේ තම කිරි දරුවාට මවුකිරි නොදී පැහැර හැරීමය. සෞදියේ දරුවකු වයස අවුරුදු දෙකක් වනතුරු බෝතලයෙන් කිරි පෙවීම තහනම් වන අතර මව විසින් දරුවාට කිරි දීම අනිවාර්යයක් බව සුර්ෆික් මහතා කියන්නේය. ඇය ඉතා මුරණ්ඩු ගැහැනියක නොවන්නට රිසානාගේ ඉරණම මීට වඩා හොඳ විදිහට විසඳෙන්නට තිබිණි.

2005 වර්ෂයේදී මෙම සිදුවීම් දාමය ඇරඹෙද්දීම ඇය බාල වයස්කාරියක බව සෞදියේ ශ්‍රී ලංකා තානාපතිවරයා ඔප්පු නොකළේ ඔහුට හැකියාව තිබියදී බව සුර්ෆික් මහතා චෝදනා කරයි. ඉන්පසු වරින් වර එළැඹි විවිධ අවස්ථාවලදී සෞදියේ ශ්‍රී ලංකා තානාපති කාර්යාලයට රිසානා සම්බන්ධ උසාවි කටයුතුවලට මැදිහත් වීමට හැකියාව තිබූ බව හෙතෙම පවසයි. රිසානා මරා දැමීමට නියමව තිබියදී ශ්‍රී ලංකා තානාපතිවරයා එතැනට යා යුතුම වුවත් එවන් යමක් සිදුවී නැත. සෞදි රජයෙන් ඇය මරා දැමීමට නියමිත වේලාව තානාපතිවරයාට නොපැවැසීමද කුතුහලය දනවන සිදුවීමකි.

රිසානා මරා දැමීමට දිගින් දිගටම බලපෑම් කළ ඔතාබි නෝනාගේ හදවත ගලකටත් වඩා රළු පරළු වන්නට ඇති බව හෙතෙම කියයි. රිසානාගේ ලේ වන්දිය ලබා දීමටද සූදානම් බව පවසද්දීත් ඇය රිසානා මරා දැමීමට කටයුතු කළේ ඇගෙන් පළිගන්නටද? සිය දරුවා මියගිය වේදනාවටද? නැතිනම් වෙනත් කිසියම් දෙයක් රිසානාගේ මරණයත් සමඟ වැළලී යා යුතු යැයි අෑ සිතූ නිසාද යන්න පිළිබඳ සුර්ෆික් මහතා සැක පළ කරයි. කෙසේ නමුත්, හදවත මෙලෙක් නැති එවන් ගැහැනියකගේ සිතුවිලි වෙනස් කිරීමට ඇගේ යෙහෙළියක, ඇගේ ඥාතියකු මාර්ගයෙන් කටයුතු කළා නම් මෙය හොඳින් විසඳෙන්නට තිබූ බවද ඔහු කියයි.

විදේශ අමාත්‍ය රෝහිත බෝගොල්ලාගම මහතාගේ කාලයේ සිට රිසානා බේරා ගැනීමට විවිධ අය සෞදි යෑමට ඒමට වැය කළ මුදල සුළුපටු නොවන බව බොහෝ අය දනිති. දැන් ඒවායේ ගණන් - හිලව් විමසා පලක් නැත. කාන්තාවන් මැදපෙරදිග සේවයට ගොස් ජීවිතය අහිමි කරගෙන, දෑත්, දෙපා අහිමි කරගෙන සදාකාලික අබ්බගාතයන් වී මෙරටට ඒම රටට දැන් අලුත් කාරණයක් නොවේ.

සුර්ෆික් මහතා පවසන පරිදි සෞදි උසාවි කටයුතු පිළිබඳ පැහැදිලි වාර්තාවක්, රිසානාගේ බන්ධනාගාර ජීවිතය පිළිබඳ පොලිස් වාර්තාවක් ලබා ගැනීම හා රිසානා මරා දැමුවේ කෙසේද යන්න ඇගේ බඩු බාහිරාදිය අවසන් කැමැත්ත නොවිමසීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් ශ්‍රී ලංකා මානව හිමිකම් කොමිසම මඟින් විමසා බලා තොරතුරු අනාවරණය කිරීමට ඔහු මූලිකව කටයුතු කරන්නේය.

රිසානා වෙනුවෙන් ඇගේ මවුපියන්ට හා සහෝදරියන්ට නිවෙසක් ජනාධිපතිවරයා මඟින් ලබාදීමත් සෞදි රජුගේ සහායෙන් මුතූර් ප්‍රදේශය රිසානා වෙනුවෙන් දියුණු කිරීමටත් සුල්ෆික් මහතා අරමුණු කොට සිටී.

රටට මසුරන් පොදි ගෙන ඒමට තම සහෝදරියන්ගේ ජීවිතය යහපත් කිරීමට රට තුළ බලා සිටින සෑම ජාතියකම රිසානාලාගේ දුක්ඛිත බවින් බර වූ හිස් කඳින් වෙන් නොකිරීමට තවදුරටත් ඉඩ නොතිබේ නම් රිසානා වෙනුවෙන් විය යුතු සාධාරණය අනෙකක් නොවන බව වේදනාබරිත හදවතට වඩා හොඳින් දැනෙනු ඇත යන්න නිසැකය.

If I read this correctly somewhere, the Saudi King had offered 3 million riyal to Rizana's "employer" in compensation to save Rizana ( which they declined).

Now it might be time to give some of the that money to Rizana's parents along with a sizable help from Sri Lankan government. ( did not hear yet they have not done anything to help the family) . This poor girl went to Saudi to help out her family and earn for a marriage. The least to be done is to help out her family in honor of her.

For us as Srilankans what is puzzling about the way in which the case was heard in that country. When can we expect these legal documents to be handed over to SL Govt. Why the body was buried there, when Rizana's Mother requested it. What the difference between That mother in Saudi and Rizanas Mother.

If Rizana is from US or UK.....things would have been different know Very Happy

Saudi Arabia defied all international protests as well as outcry of Sri Lanka to release Rizana Nafeek and beheaded her last week. A sword-wielding executioner carried out the decree in Dawadami, near Riyadh; hours after the Saudi Interior Ministry endorsed the judgment against her

Who failed Rizana Nafeek is the question that usually follows the solace of remembering her. She was beheaded even after a one-hour long appeal was made to spare her life. Her plight is marred by the lackadaisical efforts, embassy policies and negligence to offer legal aid throughout her trial.

Rizana Nafeek was arrested in April 2005, but she had not been on death row for six years. It took the Saudi Judicial system abided by the strict Shariah law two years to make their case while our missions and the country remained passive.

Sri Lanka’s miserly support for migrant workers is reflected not only with Rizana’s case, but also with the increasing number of runaway maids and abuses that continue to date. According to a letter written by Rizana from the Dawadami prison on January 10, 2007 she had many problems at the home she was working in. “I am working here for one and half months. I have to cook, wash pots and pans as well as look after the babies, a boy aged four and a girl aged three,” she wrote pleading with her loved ones here “Please save my life”.

Rizana arrived in Saudi Arabia with falsified documents which showed her age as 20 though she was only 17. Holder of Sri Lanka Passport No.N0331835, Rizana worked as a maid in Riyadh at her sponsor, Naïf Jiziyan Khalaf Al-Otaibi’s residence, whose wife had a new-born baby boy.

While she was bottle-feeding the infant around noon on May 25, the baby boy started choking. Rizana’s statements reads: “When I was feeding the infant, I noticed milk was oozing through his mouth and nose. I stroked his throat gently and noticed his eyelids closing. I thought he was snoozing”.

The four-month-old boy died, but the cause of death remains unknown since no inquest was held. She was arrested by the Police the same day and it was reported she was forced to sign a confession.
Rizana’s story widely appeared in the papers later in 2007. Between 2005 and 2007 all lines of diplomacy and attempts to secure her release were blurred. Appeals at diplomatic level from Sri Lanka rarely affected the outcomes of the case and only the mission could render help.

During the two years Sri Lanka’s lackadaisical efforts to release her amounted to nothing. It was a crucial period for both her and the country but it slipped away. Saudi Arabians are hostile towards migrant workers and its legal system reflects that fact. Judicial proceedings were in Arabia and it was known that Rizana was not provided with an interpreter. Although the missions in Saudi Arabia were aware of the situation their policies disabled legal aid to migrant workers. Instead she had to appear in court with an Indian Malayaly interpreter. Malayalam and Tamil are two different languages.

Within this background, whether Sri Lanka did all her could to secure her release is debatable. We could have done a lot more. Rizana’s case went back and forth through the magistrate court, the court of cassation, the supreme judicial council and even through the Royal Court. At one point it was sent back to the magistrate court for clarifications.
Rizana appeared in court in February 2007. A three-member panel of judges from the Dawadami High Court headed by Chief Justice Abdullah Al-Rosaimi found her guilty of murdering the four-month-old infant and sentenced her to death on June 16, 2007. She appeared in courts again only in 2010. In the long interim, the absence of any support legal or otherwise for her barred the opportunity for a fair trial.

Her defense depended only on the Asian Human Rights who readied funds to pay blood money expecting the family of the deceased infant would pardon Rizana - something even GOSL didn’t come forward with. When the case was before the Royal Court, the parents of the deceased child and the Reconciliation Committee (RC) of the Riyadh governorate were requested to meet to reach an amicable settlement. It was reported that the mother was in great urgency to witness Rizana’s execution.

Rizana was on death row in June 2007 and sentenced in September 2010 by the Supreme Judicial Council. It was only in October 2010 that Sri Lanka fully intervened. But by that time, her prospect of being set free was substantially diminished.
As the significance of the case heightened in Sri Lanka the two foreign employment subagents who sent her abroad were sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High Court and ordered each to pay Rs. 60,000 as compensation to her parents.

Last week the Supreme Judicial Council of Saudi Arabia informed Riyadh Governorate about the verdict making her execution imminent. President Mahinda Rajapaksa sent the second appeal on January 5 seeking her release. During the last few days, a delegation was being assembled including her parents to visit her. They had been waiting for her father to be discharged from the hospital where he was seeking treatment.

It’s appalling that her parents still reside in a makeshift home despite all the support rendered to their daughter. They are survivors of the 2004 Tsunami and deserve more.
All we can do now is to swallow our sorrow while looking at the grimy photocopied photo of Rizana. When she was killed she was only 24. “Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un” (We belong to Allah and to Him we return). May Allah SWT grant her Jannah and look over her family in this time of need.

This is not a bad suggestion.
SLBFE should maintain a Banned List of employers who have ill treated workers but not only maids in particular.
Arabs are so proud of their Tribes and when one does wrong and if the whole tribe (because of the family name) get to bear the cross, then they will think twice as to what should be done with the bad apples among them.
This "Banned List" has to be done collectively as many workers come from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Indonesia and Philippines to name a few countries in the region.

I understand if this child murder truly happened ( but logical facts certain appear not ) a Mothers feelings. But after many years to still have vengeance in heart to not to forgive ( To K'ill) even after an offer to help the woman's other child who is sick in turn of Rizana's freedom , speaks of this Otabi Woman. I presume she must been hardly educated to start with.
Every country should give publicity never to work for this family or that province that gave the ruling in the first place. ever again to start with.

As I try to respect Laws of religions I am not going to talk about Sharia. When we enter a country like Saudi the laws of that land apply. Whose responsibility is to make known those things to the uneducated poor people who go there for Driving and as housemaids. I think it is the duty of the agencies,Immigration / Foreign Labour dept to make aware.

For political reasons I doubt Sri Lanka is going to ban anyone going to Saudi. But atleast try to find other options for the poor, improve the lively hood of Sri Lankans, and atleast do what you can politicos. WAKE UP.
Atleast what about education and an insurance scheme for the unimaginable. Heard there are 4 more sri lankans in Saudi custofy( don't know for what they are held)

I know you cannot put a Price Tag for loses and sorrows.
But the real meaning of having "Blood Money" payment in place is to ensure the well being of the dependants of the family, if something happened to the breadwinner of that family.
In that context, I can understand the thinking of that dreadful Saudi woman but what I am unable to comprehend is how can someone hold the anger for so long.
I am sure she has already gone many times where Rizana has been dispatched, simple holding a vengeance to see Blood for Blood in return.
