Dark horse for 2013 is CIND but the horse is still sleeping so the entry into the race may only be later in 2013.

Finally someone who talks about it. Hardly fell below Rs 58.

Slow moving now and many will not like it. But if it gets pushed it will be another REG like in a big run ( if it happens). It has the fundamentals to give several times its present value in a serious run if ever it gets pushed. ( I am not saying it will) .

Collected some CCS shares expecting a demand later this year. Hopefully JKH will not break my hopes. Neutral

Presume you went for it as growth share? On valuation for past 2 quarters I did not see anythign exceptional.

Track is being extended realizing there will be more horses.
Until such time the stable is closed.
Once open the wider track, the race become highly competitive.
Many bet for dark horses.
Unfortunately time is uncertain.

Nope Sls its not about core business activities. If those will on positive side then it's a bonus. It's all about the JKH mega project at CCS land in slave island. Collected CCS when it was trading around 120-125

In past years, the shares that earned me the most were...
2010: Lanka Walltile
2011: Lanka Walltile
2012: Renuka City Hotels

2013: Cargo Boat Development Co
(This year, I'm betting on CABO. If you examine the company's financials, you'd understand why.)

Some of your old horses might give you hefty return again at present prices.

Also other than property at Janadhipathi mawatha and porfolio of DFCC,COMB,LLUB for CABO, did you find something else that makes CABO more attractive than RENU.

Did you see RENU cash balance now ( seems they got their Aussie money back?).

I would agree with this statement; the hefty return will start after Shareholder No. 6 (you know who) finishes his selling. When that will happen is anybody's guess... 2014?

slstock wrote:

Based only on current prices, they are both equally attractive: high gross margin percentage, steady profit performance, and very high NAV relative to price. RENU's supply overhang is what tilts the scales in favor of CABO, for me.

slstock wrote:

Yes, they got their money back from REN Pty Ltd... Cash balance of Rs 164 per share!

Caution: The shares mentioned here are better suited for value investors who are willing to play the waiting game.

Thanks for replies.Last rally most of us got ten fold gains from dark horses, but this time five to seven fold will be more realistic.
Pathfinder- In last rally I bought GLAS at Rs1(2009)and I sold at Rs3 then I did see GLAS climb up to Rs 11.It was pain full, I must say.If I was bit more patient
GLAS should have been my dark horse too.
Anyway I wish you all best of luck with your DARK HORSES.

Dear SL.market
I don't really smell anything right now but I expect good quarterly results from this and next as it's peek season for KURU. EPS -above 2 will trigger some buying presser.(hopefully)
And also sri lankan apparel gaining it's lost competitiveness as Chaina and Veatnam getting expensive.Bangladesh is very competitive right now which is good for KURU because 50% of kuru's exports go to this country. hope for the best.

Sahreholder no 6 of which company?

I guess it is RENU. Serial reduction in quntity of shareholding over the last few quarterly reports.

I am with you on the SLS, that RENU is probably better than CABO simply cos of the NAV and cannot really ignore the when you buy RENU at 240 you get 164 in cash balance, not to forget the othe shares. Issue about minority holders may not really get any benifit is true for both I uess, which is what makes me not mop up all small quntitities avaialbe at this ridiclous price.

PS. Please do not take this as a promotion. The topic is to identify dark horses. I do hold RENU shares at present.
