How will CHOGM impact the CSE? Your views pls?

This is kinda “pathola” meeting. Financially we won’t get anything as almost all of these members are full time “developing countries” (since populated the group)

Few presentations, drinks, little chat here n there, good food and finally a joint statement. That’s the core of such meeting.

Even though this cost a considerable amount of money, it’s good to organise such meeting in Sri Lanka rather not having it in here. This will help to boost the image of Sri Lanka.

Apart from heavy demand for city hotel rooms during that short period, nothing much gonna happen that affects CSE. Me thinks.

Between now and CHOGM the govt is conducting three pc elections, the rural support barometer will be tested, the Wigneswaran factor ,a few HR cases are being rushed through, Navi Pillai in town in a few weeks, international spotlight starting to focus, LTTE tail will have its plans,will the PS goons give up their regular election habits and behave for CHOGM journos, will the BBS be told to keep their mouth shut, will prince charles stay at hotel peacock, new geopolitical realities in the indian ocean,wiff of oil in the air and what about Mervin the Vermin. It will be interesting times ahead as Rainmaker said somewhere and it will affect CSE short term no doubt. Positive or negative no idea. The capabilities of the government managing the situ will be clear. This is going to be trickier than expropriations bill, cj issue or vaas gunawardene.

We live in interesting times .... There are more twists than the movie Don

With the northern provincial council the tables have really changed. The provincial councils and its promotion of UPFA victories is amongst the biggest mistakes one can make.

On the other hand VPs rejection of the provincial council is the biggest mistake he ever made.

The entire provincial council system should have been done way long ago.

The entire Indian congress party has always been about concessions. Just vote buying that has made the Muslim minority extremely powerful. Separate region, autonomy over finances, Urdu as a language etc etc

Lets see how this will unfold ....

Defa this meeting will affect to CSE. After this useless meeting our ppl have to lick their palms. Thats all we will get nothing. Gov will spent more USD to make brighter event. After all we will get a punch. Coming budget will hv no impact on economy too.
No income except spending.

There may be plus and minus effect depending on How we face foreign delegations

Most important stage will be how our leader directly discuss with foreign leaders answer
their direct questions

Many of the CHOGM countries are developing nations they cannot help us. That is is for sure. Sure only negative impacts nothing positive for outside.

I think there are big positives in the ports, freight forwarding, warehouse, transshipment type of area.

A free port with large duty free zones will result in large warehousing by Indian/European/Middle Eastern firms

The meat on the bone is the land powers because of the 99 oil tanks in Trinco ...... what ever said and done that is the largest single oil storage facility in Asia

What kind of own journey?
if some big one (few)to change towards up or down trend, can only cause for change either positive or negative

I'm pretty sure government will play a very defensive role.
