In light of voice and messaging revenues coming under increasing pressure for most telecommunication operators, the head of Sri Lanka’s top operator Dialog Axiata PLC, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya last week said that with the global trend he believes, revenue from data is expected to increase to about 30 percent or more out of total revenue from the present seven percent during the next three years.
“Investment in increasing data capacity and reach is gearing the company up to cater that future demand,” Director/Group Chief Executive of Dialog Axiata PLC Wijayasuriya said at an event held to announce an infrastructure investment agreement totaling to US $150 million with the Board of Investment (BoI).
The investment agreements will encompass the expansion of the multi-faceted ICT infrastructures of the Dialog Group including but not limited to 4G and 3G High Speed Broadband, Fibre Optic, Fixed Telecommunication and International telecommunication networks. The agreements were entered in to by Dialog Axiata PLC and its wholly-owned subsidiary Dialog Broadband Networks (DBN) and will span a project implementation period of three years.
“Since bridging the one billion dollar investment milestone in 2011, Dialog’s investment in Sri Lanka has expanded to US $ 1.35 billion, and is set to exceed the USD 1.5 billion mark upon the completion of the infrastructure development projects encompassed in the agreements recently entered in to,” the mobile operator said in a statement.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Wijayasuriya noted that the continued and consistent investment record of the Dialog Group bears testimony to the confidence the company and its principal shareholder Axiata Group had in the Government of Sri Lanka, its investment facilitation agencies and the Sri Lankan economy and domestic market
“Progressive telecommunications sector regulation, an enabling investment environment and the relentless support of their customers and employees has underpinned the multiple waves of FDI delivered by the Dialog Group – now totaling to excess of 1.5 billion US dollars,” he noted.
