The Supreme Court today stayed the Gazette notification issued by the Health Ministry to have pictorial health warnings on 80% of the cover of cigarette packets and granted leave to appeal for the petition filed by the Ceylon Tobacco Company (CTC).

If the pictorial warning is introduced quite a number would either give up or reduce smoking this will in effect be a reduction of revenue to the Government

He He, Asirimath Ratak, You know guys, Have you seen every other country they carry this pictorial Warnings? Very Ugly Na...So our people thoughts keep is nice and tidy, Like city of Colombo, and SO, NO ugly pictures in our Packs ok !!!!

You know what, I saw the principal of a leading school have to go to courts and pay a fine for having plastic bottles in school can breed dengue mosquitoes,

""It is evident that close to 20,000 people die each month in Sri Lanka as a direct result of smoking and in order to continue to attain the sales volumes - either 55 new smokers have to take up smoking each day, failing which the current smokers have to be induced into smoking higher volumes of cigarettes.

""Sri Lankan Health Ministry started to Fumigate insecticide to eliminate mosquito-breeding grounds. Dengue killed more than 74 people last year in Sri Lanka.""

What a fair deal for Cigarette company ha, Whole world go to let e go to right......

More than pictorial warnings GOVT can reduce use of cigarettes if they stop selling of cigarettes in singles and make it a law to buy them in packets. So if someone wants a smoke they will need to buy a packet which will act as a deterrent since will have to pay Rs200+ at once. Practically very difficult in countries like SL though its the norm in many countries.
