The immediate casualty is Ms. Navaneetham Pillai, the Human Rights Tsar. She has tendered her resignation which has been accepted by Hon. Ban Ki Moon, the Secretary General of United Nations.
Mr. Ravinath Ariyasinghe, representing the Government of Srilanka submitted evidence on how the computer was manipulated. `Many of the abstentions were in fact votes against the motion. India for example voted against the motion.`
Hon. GL Pieris, the Foreign Minister of the troubled nation said `We are masters at this game. We know how to manipulate elections. In fact we have a separate unit for this purpose at domestic level. They even managed to manipulate the vote at the Time Magazine poll few years ago. We also know how even the genuine votes are cast. We threw many parties and the people loved our bithara aapa and the girls. But the Americans threw bigger parties.`
The UN is steeped in corruption. During the last stages of the war, Ban himself visited Sri Lanka, only to be treated with special `hospitality` by the hosts - Ban turned a blind eye to the massacre of civilians at that time.
The Climate Change programme has also run into corruption allegations, with some of the research done by Mr. Prachuri the Commissioner being called `fraudulent` by the academics.
Many heads are expected to roll over these latest allegations.
