May 07, Colombo: Sri Lankan farmers can purchase fertilizer at substantially subsidized price for any kind of crop from today, Sri Lanka Ministry of Finance announced.
The government has decided to extend the fertilizer subsidy to any crop. Earlier, the subsidy was given only to rice and several other selected crops.
Accordingly, the farmers can now purchase fertilizer at subsidized rates from any shop without filling forms.
A 50-kilo bag of unmixed fertilizer will be sold at Rs. 1,200 while a 50-kilo bag of mixed fertilizer will be sold at Rs. 1,300. They were sold at Rs. 3,500 to 5,000 in the open market before.
Rice farmers can buy a 50-kilo bag of fertilizer at Rs. 350.
The government spends Rs. 40 billion per year for the fertilizer subsidy.
What do you think guys.... This will reduce main operating expenses from plantation sector companies.... So their profits are going to rise for next quarters.....
There may be a price hike tomorrow....
I am glad I still hold on to my LDEV rights.... will it rise to 5???
