SL could have more business from China: Chinese mayor

"Ceylon tea, sea food, etc. could attract higher demand from the Chinese market if business matchmaking and trade partnerships could be furthered effectively, China’s Zhongshan City mayor Chen Liangxian said recently at the Sri Lanka- Zhongshan Business Forum held at the Taj Samudra Hotel.
This business matchmaking forum saw the signing of four trade contracts between visiting business delegates from Zhongshan Province, China, and representatives from Sri Lankan companies, giving effect to electronics and apparels trade deals where Zhongshan City mayor Chen Liangxian and Investment Promotions Deputy Minister Faizer Mustapha were also present.
Singer Sri Lanka PLC was signatory to two trade agreements while Capital Apparels Pvt. Ltd and WILMAX Enterprises were signatories to the other two agreements.
The delegation from Zhongshan consisted of 35 potential investors representing diverse fields of trade looking to establish a business network through business matchmaking.
Deputy Minister Faizer Mustapha speaking on the occasion said,"Investor Forum organized by the Friendship Association shows the great potential in terms of people -to- people business relations where the end beneficiaries are people themselves."
A BOI official who gave a detailed presentation on investment opportunities at the event told the delegates that various investment opportunities are available for them in Sri Lanka, especially as Sri Lanka is located in a strategic location easilly accessible to several major economic hubs of the world.
"There are many opportunities to invest in the leisure sector among many other sectors. Investors from Zhongshan Province are entitled to many tax benefits. We have a good work force to complement other investment-friendly features. BOI will soon reinvent and launch its website which would include Chinese translations, he said.
