The Central Bank Governor and Finance Ministry officials will meet Golden Key(GK) depositors tomorrow (27) at the Central Bank to finalize a prospective repayment plan to pay aggrieved GK depositors, Finance Ministry sources said.
Small depositors will be paid in full under certain qualifying payment measures to be introduced in the plan, the sources said. According to Golden Key Credit Card company sources, the Central Bank, which earlier agreed to pay 41 percent of the monies of the depositors to redress their grievances, are now planning to increase that percentage to 60 percent or more for the benefit of the depositors. There was Rs 26.1 billion to be paid to GK depositors at the time the company collapsed in 2009.
GK Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dinesh Perera said they had paid Rs.2.1 billion since then to the depositors. " In accordance with the previous action plan of the Central bank, Rs 8 billion was to be paid to the depositors," he said. He said he envisioned settlement mechanism is to become effective before the end of the government's 100 day programme."
