JINS, Will it be a repurchase of shares by the company or will they distribute the gain by way of a special dividend and continue in CSE?
What do you think?

JINS has already confirmed that they will go for share buy-back in order to distribute capital gains among JINS shareholders (where over 75% owned by Janashakthi PLC owned by Schaffter family).

What will be the target share price once the sale of JGIL is done?

Remember COCR too immediately reacted the same way and came down.

JINS being low priced the manipulators are in action. Many innocent investors are bound to lose in the near future.

Do a simple calculation and see the buyback price where you can come to a expectation of buy back price.
Sales proceeds of 16.4Bn to generate 30/- cash per share and if they utilize half of them to buy back shares at the ratio of 1:2 then they will offer you 30/-
Therefore the current market price seems came close to the expected cut-off price.

See now 30/- is achieved. cheers

Janashakthi Insurance has conducted a share buy back exercise recently. Janashakthi PLC is the holding company of Janashakthi Insurance and they are entitled for a 76% stake of the buy back proceeds. Now the holding company is going to undertake a Repurchase exercise utilising those money's.

but the price per share.....612.27 rupees!!
is that a typo error or for real?!
and the offer to buy back at that price opened and closed on 26th.
please read this particular circular carefully

This buyback is by JANA-Janashakthi Plc and not JINS-Janashakthi Insurance Plc
JANA is the HoldCo of JINS -So what JANA got as proceeds from the buyback from JINS they are now reciprocrating to its own shareholders-Whom I believe are the individual Schaffter Family memebers only

After the buy back the JINS trade around it's NAV. Will there be a possibility of going up further.

Janashakthi Insurance share price movement in future will depend on how their life business is going to perform in future. So better to study their next couple of quarter results before entering.

But still the dividend announcement is spending. With that can't we expect a upward trend. Pls comment.

Ranil Ranasinghe

JINS repurchase of shares has an ambiguity. Though they said repurchase at 36.70, I feel they have really repurchased a share at 32.30 and paid a dividend of 4.40 and deducted dividend tax 10%. Further in reality, if they repurchased first then they can't pay a dividend. First they have given a dividend and then repurchased. Isn't it?

In this circumstance they have given 4.40 dividend to repurchased share, shouldn't they also give the same amount or more to existing shares of JINS...Your thoughts...

I agree with EC if anyone is going buy JINS as a medium to long term investment.

For a long time JINS owners Schaffter family was looking to sell their Life insurance segment as it wasn’t doing well compared to industry growth, so much so even new entrants surpassed them. There was a time they were the 5th largest life insurer but now they are in the 7th spot with Softlogic Life and HNB Assurance dislodging JINS. Within the next 5 years LOLC Life and Arpico Life too might surpass JINS.

Finally they sold General business which was comparatively doing very well, as their efforts to rid Life business failed.

In 2017 Life insurance industry grew by 12% but JINS life business contracted. This is what their MD says “The ongoing restructuring effort of our Life business is reaching conclusion and is expected to bear fruit in the foreseeable future”.

They also don’t seem to have good, proven life driven CEO and management to run their life business compared to others in the industry. As Schaffters are weak in running life compared to General, they will shop for top talent to run the JINS. They have hired many such in the past for life business but all those efforts have given back the company very little. The latest is the resignation of Life CEO who was replaced by a considerably weaker CEO when it comes to running life business.

The possibility of talented life driven CEO (Local) and new management would be impossible as good professionals will fear that chaffters will ultimately sell off.

So watch their performance within the next 2 quarters or perhaps even next 4 quarters before you make a substantial investment in JINS. If you are looking to buy a good insurance company HNB owned HNB Assurance, JKH owned Union Assurance, Richard Pieris Group owned Arpico Life, People’s Leasing (People’s Bank ultimate owner) owned People’s Insurance and Ceylinco are also worth looking at and analyzing.

Concerned about CTCE's non compliance of public share holding?
Will they delist?

If that is the case then there will be lot of delistings. I think CSE will arrange an alternative.

I missed AIA Insurance. It is promising. They may not be able declare a similar dividend next Financial year but the trend of high dividend payouts to shReholders will continue.

AIA is a Profit Driven Shareholder friendly global life insurance company.

EC your prediction on AIA that it could be trading over Rs. 500/- would perhaps materialise soon,
UAL touched Rs. 225/- today.
When you look at the performance of HASU in the last quarter, there is every possibility this HNB Bank owned HNB Assurance too will be moving up rapidly soon or later. It was trading close to Rs. 80/- not so long ago and today trading around Rs. 100/-
