A group of senior members of President Maithripala Sirisena's Sri Lanka Freedom Party has asked him to contest the next presidential election with broad coalition, a statement said.
President Sirisena contested in 2015 saying he will be a one term President. He later fell out with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Sri Lanka Freedom Party parliamentarians had given a letter requesting him to head broad coalition against the United National Party of Wickremesigne, a statement from his office said.
SLFP Deputy Chairman Nimal Siripala de Silva, General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekera, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Sarath Amunugama, deleted Dissanyake, Mahinda Amaraweera, Faizer Mustapha,
Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Lasantha Alagaiwanne, Weerakumara Dissanayake were among those who had visited President Thursday.
