The dollar traded at 180 when pandemic hit in January 2020. Now the dollar trading above 200. Very good for the tourism industry as room rates are in dollars.

Sri Lanka reached nearly 1500 visitors per day at the end of the first week in November.
Russian Aeroflot and few airlines didn't started flights yet, they will start from mid of November.
Can we expect 3000 visitors per day at the end of November ?

Another set of Airlines from Russia, Poland, Italy and other countries start flights to Sri Lanka since December. Hopefully 250,000 per month is achievable in December to April. Tourism in Maldives recovered to pre pandemic level. In November the numbers are 10% above the pre pandemic level.

Govt. to develop new tourism zones
Sri Lankan government has decided to develop new tourism zones to boost the local tourism industry and the process of establishing those new tourism zones is currently underway.
According to Ministry of Tourism, Secretary, Siripala Hettiarachchi, these tourism zones are to be set up in Nuwara Eliya, Ella, Arugam Bay, Passikudah, Kalpitiya and Hikkaduwa.

A comprehensive report relating the development of Ella Tourism Zone has already been completed and gazetted as a new tourism zone.
Furthermore, approximately 80 projects have been identified in Ella Zone alone, which will include water, electricity, roads, sewerage, city centre development, city beautification projects and etc,” he added. Each Zone will also have A Tourism Information Office,” he said.
Moreover, Arugam Bay Zone is to be developed as an ideal location for surfing. A comprehensive report relating to the development of this zone has already been completed and is to be gazetted shortly.

Ministry of Tourism also hopes to attract investors for these projects as they will have to have many infrastructures ready under this development program. These development projects are to be implemented jointly by the Ministries of Highways, Rural Roads and other Infrastructure Development, Wildlife and Local Government and many more.

Local tourism industry suffered a heavy blow due to COVID-19 pandemic and the government is taking all possible and necessary steps to revive it.

Australia was one of the top market for us. Other competitors like Thailand , Philippine, Indonesia are not fully opened to travelers due to lower vaccination rates

Basically, this year, everyone came at once: in July, August and September and into October. Most companies didn't have enough cars to support the big influx of people all arriving at the same time."

Emirate added 2 additional flights to Colombo

Emirates has announced it will operate two additional flights a week to Colombo from today (15) to support the resurgence of Sri Lanka’s tourism industry as more key source markets relax travel restrictions.

1) Passengers departing from Brazil, South Africa, Nepal or Sri Lanka have been banned to enter Turkey until a new decision to be taken. However, there is no obstacle for the passengers travelling from these countries to have a transit flight via Turkey, and our flights from the mentioned countries currently continue. Passengers arriving in Turkey from another country but have been in Brazil, South Africa, Nepal or Sri Lanka in the last 14 days shall be stipulated to submit a PCR test with negative result taken within maximum 72 hours before arrival, and such passengers shall be taken under quarantine for 14 days in locations to be determined by the governorships. If the result of the PCR test to be taken at the end of the 14^th day of the quarantine is negative, the quarantine measure shall be ended. Passengers whose PCR test results are positive shall be taken under isolation from that date, and in the case that the result of the PCR test to be taken at the end of the 14^th day of the test is negative, the measure shall be ended. Accommodation and transfer costs from airports shall be covered by the passengers.
