All 25 companies in MPI are considered blue chips and this list is updated quarterly.
Go to CSE -> Listed companies -> Sectors -> Select MPI

Nop, not so. If you go by that VONE, FLCH are blue ships.

Mate would you call FLCH & VONE as blue chips? FLCH made loss the quarter before. They came public just an year ago.

Blu chip means companies which have proved that they make good profits even in difficult times. these companies have a good track record. They are proven material.

VONE began their business very recently and flch little while back.

Did you try your investment adviser on this? Smile

Definition of 'Blue Chip' (by Investopedia)
A nationally recognized, well-established and financially sound company. Blue chips generally sell high-quality, widely accepted products and services. Blue chip companies are known to weather downturns and operate profitably in the face of adverse economic conditions, which helps to contribute to their long record of stable and reliable growth.

In my view, the bluest of our Blue Chips are: JKH, COMB & SPEN.

The overall market is trading at a P/E Ratio of 11.4.

John Keells Holdings (JKH), the foreign investor's favorite company, is trading at a P/E Ratio of 18.4...
Surely the 61% premium is justified due to the company's growth potential and the share's liquidity..? Or is it?

I think its no its not.. JKH is a bit overvalued for its potential, at this prize we're paying a premium to own a minority and its not justifiable unless they have hefty plans on how the business will be in next couple of years. Its already passed the "Growth" stage imo.. so sustaining in this troubled economic period will be their buzz word.

I think those who are seeking to purchase this share @ 240Rs based on financial fundamentals are paying a big price......

For the chartists/technical traders this is giving an opportunity to make some killing ..... Basketball

JKH is overvalued, no two words about it. The question is, will the buying continue? If it does then it doesnt matter if its overvalued or not. My opinion is it will run out soon if its foreign buying, last time JKH hit 230, foreign buyers sold out as it hit their exit p/e ratio targets and fell to 200 or so. Now its up past 240. Maybe 250 will be the inflection point? I'm p1ssed off as I exited half my holding at 234!

Did a rough calc and they have c.LKR850m in JKH which is small, around 3.7m shares. Is there a way to access their previous months reports? Can check of they have been adding JKH over the period or if the hilding is stable.

To bet 10% of the fund (186 million pounds) in lankan equities requires serious Basketball if you get what I mean. Especially after burning your fingers on PAP.

The composition larger than the lankan one is cash (15%) and HK securities (20%),

I did notice the 10%, same as China and only smaller than HK. Wonder what else they have their fingers in. They have c.25% of their LK allocation in JKH, bet the rest is in Banks and maybe a punt at PLC.

Anyway to see their previous reports?

If u take last couple of weeks foreigners were very busy in purchasing most valuable shares in the mkt. To name JKH,SAMP,HNB,COMB,LLUB,VONE,NDB etc.

We are talking nonsense about Gold drama, Right issues, over valuations, economic issues, Godahewa fiasco, Dr.senthrivel etc, etc. But nobody notice the bargain prices of these shares. Just see the foreign purchases list.

When are we going to learn this?

Bull
I meant last few days, I don't think foreigners were active in the market. There were very thin volumes traded and less turnovers in recent... But today they were active but not like one or two month back... But active and gave some oxygen to very slow and low market...

Despite bearish local sentiments in the Colombo Bourse, it has drawn over Rs. 600 million in net foreign inflow this week. Yesterday’s inflow was Rs. 420.5 million whilst on Monday it amounted to Rs. 260.4 million. The year-to-date inflow once again moved back to Rs. 16 billion mark finishing at Rs. 16.3 billion yesterday.
Foreigners have been focusing on blue chips such as JKH, Dialog and select banking stock.

In terms of which criterion you are referring into? Liquidity, dividend, profitability, price appreciation, etc? There are lot of areas for this question to look at.
