Nov 14, 2011 (LBO) - Cairn Lanka, a unit of India's Cairn Energy has made a second gas strike off the northeastern coast of Sri Lanka, a government statement said.
The presidents office said in a statement that the state petroleum exploration office has been informed by Cairn of the find. It was 38 kilometers away from the first strike.
Its first well, CLPL-Dorado-91H/1z found a 25 meter hydrocarbon deposit at a depth of 3,000 meters.
On October 04, Cairn Lanka had begun work on CLPL-Barracuda-1G/1, a second well.
Evidence of gas deposits has been found in both wells drilled so far, bu the firm had said further drilling is needed to find its commercial development.
