sure mark! totally shameless! He thinks that he knows economics than everyone but he knows nothing. He may knows the theory but no practical knowledge.

If my econ friends debate with him, definitely we will win. I'm sure!

But No need economics and economical words to be used for this argument. Even a normal person can understand the situation and he or she can explain it nicely. Bandula don't know the complexity and the difficulty of life because he is paid several lakhs for a month for his expenses. He visits foreign countries for his vacation time with his family always. So, how does he understand the status of people's life? He see everything simply and easily because he is going a mile up from the ground.

VIDEO: Canteen owners shed light on Bandula’s lunch packet comment

University authorities and canteen owners alike shed some light on how lunch packets at University canteens are sold at such nominal prices following comments by Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena on the Wada Pitiya show on TV Derana.

The Minister claimed while debating his much talked about theory that Rs.2500 a month was enough for a person to survive in Sri Lanka, that the lunch packets sold at the Colombo University by privately owned canteens that aimed at making profits, were priced in a range around Rs.25 to Rs.30.

However, University authorities and canteen workers stated that the University itself does not charge the canteens for electricity, water or gas which allowed the lunch packets to be sold at lower prices.

The Vice Chancellor of the Colombo University, Prof. Kshanika Hirimburegama stated that a small fee is charged for electricity but not for water while gas is not provided.

Meanwhile, Asela Sampath, National Organizer of the All Island Canteen Owners Association stated that at the stipulated prices, it is not possible to sell food of acceptable quality.

He explained that the vegetables and rice used for these lunch packets were often the refuse from the Manning market while no additional spices were used while preparing these meals.

Sampath further stated that this was the quality of service that they could provide under these price caps.

Watched the entire video.

I do not support any political party but regardless of practicality, Bandula seems to have proved logically that Rs 7,500/= is enough for a family of 3 persons.

We all know that how many families, who earns less than Rs 15,000 per month and still survive. We all need to revisit our eating habits and resultant spending without blaming everything on government. As Minister rightly pointed out Rs 7,500/= is not sufficient if you are to have Mcdonalds, KFC or Carnival Ice Cream

In colombo we have to pay excessive amount for middlemen who supplies food because they keep hefty profit margins. Village folks can always grow their vegetable in the garden and get things at a lot cheaper prices.

I was honestly disappointed, the way Ravi Karunanyake being a senior politician handled his arguments. A junior opposition member would have done a better job.

Thanks for posting the video, I think this is a good eye opener to many!!
