HC Judges decide not to take action on impeachment

The Association of High Court Judges has decided not to make any statement or take any action regarding the impeachment motion against Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake.

The decision was taken today at a meeting held by the association.

What is the action the HC judges can take regarding the impeachment ? Can anyone enlighten?

I guess opinions falls onto first part of the above statement. But what actions can they take at this stage? Basically against the Govn making an impeachment? Interesting.

Anyway know the in depth law?

According to the Constitution, no action is possible by the HC but they can be part of the campaign of interested parties or be neutral. If they choose to oppose the proposed motion similar reaction can be expected from the Govt.

Impeachment circulates among parliament, Executive & Judiciary.

All the low levels may raise the voice/opinion in supporting or against the impeachment motion. It helps to educate public in depth of the causes for impeachment.

Eventually, the person who hold the spoon will serve the portion on his wish.

If that is the case, then why bother to educate ourselves ? Shocked
