These days we can hear lots of critical comments about this GOVER...I think most of the people who criticize this gover..has a fair point to do so.BUT I think we as people who loves this country needs to keep a gover..in power who could
1.maintain the political stability
2.speed up the development
3.keep tight grip on the security matters
if not we will go back to the 80s and 90s again.(my personal view is ,it's better for the country if this gover..rules the country until 2016,not because they are good but because we can not hope for a better one)

not only development....what we see now...but also law an order equally important....i have to agree that some media institutions like to exaggerate some of the crime nos. but we can not totally disagree with them because spate of killing is not accepted...and the police is not allowed to their job due to politics.

we can say there is no strong opposition and the GoP is now run jokers and they are not allowing able individuals to run it.we saw what happened at recently 6+.

people are fed up with these jokers if you see each unper want to run for next presidency...Ravi,Sajith,Tissa all are fighting....the joker is watching for another 6 years Smile

Last night I was watching a Tv Quiz programme and one of the graduates from a premier university in Sri Lanka, now working as an Administrative Officer in one of the government departments was unable to answer the very first question posed to him and had to seek the audiences’ help to get the correct answer. Shocked

Once I took a motor cyclist who rammed my car from behind to the nearest hospital and I had to buy medicine needed from the nearby drug store as none were freely available (as I was told by hospital Doctor then) in the hospital. Shocked

Any country does not invest in Education and Health are doomed. affraid

1. maintain the political stability
By way of political corruption - dividing opponents by providing deputy minister and minister posts.
World record for Jumbo cabinet.

2.speed up the development
Seems to be developments are carried by the govt no dobt, but most of them are borrowed money which future generation going to pay the price.
Development pave the way to get unethical commissions and bribe to the govt members. (Even children nowadays know about this)

3.keep tight grip on the security matters
For a country this is more needed no doubt but these tight security couldn't stop the government opponents or critics were attacked or murdered or disappeared.
So the tight security means safe guard the ruling party not the public or country.

No need to commend. Obvious when you read the above.

1000 times I agree with you.
Changing the regime is big question at this moment as well as near future.
Better we need to change the mind set of the regime, which intellactuals need to take part, unfortunately we are lacking on that issue from the colonial day

Should we do something collectively, individually and earnestly to change the system or look for someone to lead us there first ?

While we may not have the time and the real expertise to discuss the burning issues in this country, we might find there's a lot expected from the Govt. by citizens.

As citizens, my understanding is we should not take it for granted that medical and education facilities are free. If the medicine is above our affordable limits, receiving free treatments are ok but we should give priority to the poor who cannot foot their bills. We must not forget that there are many a ppl who are unable to meet the ends.

Anyways, u guys can continue the discussion even though this is not an investment related topic.. But no arguments with each other and mud-slinging at any living person are intolerable.

I totally agree that we should refrain from personal attacks and mudslinging, while discussing issues here.

As for the issue of Free Education and Health Care, I believe that none should be given free.

Then the value of them will be diminished and not appreciated fully.

It doesn’t mean that the citizens have to pay in hard cash to obtain those services.

Instead we all have to earn them by participate in some sort of National Service activity but not necessarily in military service only.

European style medical card system might be a better option for the heath care.
