Resolution on SL clearly unacceptable - Samarasinghe
March 21, 2013 04:08 pm

The resolution on Sri Lanka at the UNHRC is clearly unacceptable as it is intrusive, bears misinterpretations and is dismissive of the positive, Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe stated at the UNHRC sessions in Geneva.
He also warned the council that it may suffer the same fate as the UN Human Rights Commission if this trend continues.
Minister Samarasinghe highlighted that the tone of the document on Sri Lanka was overwhelmingly pessimistic while the paragraph dealing with the progress that Sri Lanka has made thus far ignores areas of clear progress.
He once again stated that the UN report on Sri Lanka exceeded the mandate set by the council while highlighting that there was no consultation by the Sri Lanka government as to the content of the report.
The Minister claimed that the government has confidence in its domestic processes and mechanisms.
He stated that the draft resolution could establish a bad precedent in the annals of the council while those genuinely concerned about the wellbeing of the people of Sri Lanka should encourage the reconciliation process.
He further called upon the member states of the council to safeguard the paramount principles of the council and added that while today it is Sri Lanka tomorrow it could be another country that does not adhere to the agendas of the countries whose agendas are not concerned with human rights issues.

I think we should improve the relationship with all south American countries. We never had any notable relationship with them before.

That daily mirror list shows that we should not make middle east upset for many reasons.

Fair play to Mahinda for bring Ugandan president to Sri Lanka. His jultara jiltara tricks worked fine here. Wink

On point UK boy.i was also looking at the votes. We Can easily get the votes of south American communist countries and there should be improvement in foreign relations. As I know Brasil is the only South American country we have a embassy here in Sri Lanka.
Talking on Middle East even US tricks have paid off.See Lybia, they have voted against as which was impossible even to think of when Gadafi's regime was there.

Government of SL had been weak in carrying its message in the international front for decades except in a few exceptional cases. We need to have better relations with South American Nations. In the spirit of the topic, I am attaching two links here of speeches given by Dayan Jayatilleka and Tamara Kunanayagam which may interest many.

13 vote can be cosidered as satisfactory

There is a Sinhalese saying"UNNA HETIYATA MALATH MADAE"

But govt should take this matter seriously at least now.

Otherwise NAMAL AND NEXT GENERATION will feel the pinch
