This is not about Investing.
A way to save some fuel and time if you travel Northwards from Colombo.

With the opening of widened Padeniya - Anurapura Road, we can go Northward more quicker than ever.

You can reach Padeniya from Kurunegala.

I have used this road several times to go to Anurapura before they developed it to the present condition. .

It is better if you can take the alternative way from Colombo via Ja-Ela - Minuwangoda - Giriulla - Wariyapola avoiding highly congested Colombo - Kurunegala main road.

Amazing Sri Lankan, this is not a new road. This road was renovated. This is the closer than Dambulla road. This is called Anuradhapura road via ella ( Ridi Bendi Ella)

Usually most of us use Puttlam or Kurunegala - Dambulla road to go to A'pura.
That is why I wrote this as a new route.

I know most sections of this road and surround area since 1985. We were taken for surveying training along this route. I took some nice photographs. If I can trace I will post.

Later years, we covered CMB-Apura in 3 hrs using this road, we leave Colombo in early hrs. .

This info is not only for Colombo people.
After the completion of the Outer Colombo Circular road , the distance between Matara and A'pura will be around 5 hours !.

You can see an important but rarely visited ancient site called Hasthi Kuchchi if you go along this route.

Hasti Kuchchi is an important place in our history because it is considered as the real Aththanagalla where King Siri Sangabodhi offered his head. ( I think you know the story).

In about 5 kms passing Galgamuwa, you reach Maha Galkadawala . Turn left and go about 2 km from the main road to reach the site.

Ruins are scattered around the area. Nice location. You can see all the way to Anurathapura from this place.

Hasthi Kuchchi = hasthi Kusa = stomach of an elephant.
You can go inside a cavity like formation between huge rocks - resembling going inside the belly of an elephant.

In the Head offering story, the person left A'pura in the morning and reach the king within few hours. ( by foot ) No one can come to Attanagalla in Gampaha that way.

If you go little far from there, you might find a place : reswehere, a large statue , quite similar to Awkana
in fact there is a story about it.

Thanks Chinwi, salt and others. This is very useful information. I travelled along this road several years ago and in contrast to the road via Damublla, this was in a terrible state. As you say, this road, now made to be in very good condition for vehicular traffic and I shall use it the next time I go to Anuradhapura.

I am happy to see that the road is done now.
Last time when we wanted to go there, a friend of mine suggested this road but actually not knowing the condition of it then.
It was being widened and redone and took us almost 4 hours to cover the distance and my wife was bewildered whether the guy who recommended the route was in fact a friend or a foe of mine. Very Happy

Correct. We used this road without much difficulty decades ago.
During recent development they gave immense difficulty for the user as they took so long to complete it.

As you have responded to this topic may I do small correction to Salt's route guidance , mainly for fun and also to stop you meeting "salt".!

Salt wrote:If you go little far from there, you might find a place : reswehere, a large statue , quite similar to Awkana

This is the corrected statement:
If you go little far from there, you might find a place : Puttalam , a large saltern, where you can collect any amount of Salt ! Very Happy

අම්මෝ ලුණු මල්ලි හස්ති කුච්චි පාරේ ඉදිරියට ගියොත් අනුරාධපුර - පුත්තලම් පාරට වැටිලා පුත්තලම් යන්න වෙන්නේ .

If you want to go to raswehera (sas seruwa) this is the route:

At the Nothern end of Galgamu town limit you can see a tank called Arasan wewa adjoining to the Galgamuwa Railway station.
There is a tarred road at your right side along the tank bund going to Ahatuwewa . You have to proceed along that road and turn left mid way to go to Ras wehera. Total off-main road distance is about 16 kms ?.

So, Hasthi Kushshi is close by at left side of the main road and Ras wehera is to the right side , bit far away. I've been to both.

Thanks for the link.
