To me HNB NV is more lucrative than COMB N.

COMB N is trading at 10-11 PE, PBV of 2 and a DY of 5.2% (March 2013 EPS)

HNB NV is expected to make a better profit growth (% wise), trading at PE of around 6 (March 2013 EPS) , PBV of 1 and DY of 6.8% (better than savings acc). HNB historically announces a big dividen in the second half of Feb, last year it was 7/-. COMB gave Div of 2/- with a bonus shares (around 2/- worth per share). There is also less HNB NV liquidity available (approx 80 mil shares)

I expect HNB NV to make a bigger gain despite COMB having more foreign interest. HNB is also on foreign investor radar.

However things can change with mergers and acquisition and we may see abnormal returns for these shares.

Market has formed a Bullish 'W' pattern over last 6 months and 50 day MA can cross 200 day MA soon.

If gold prices remain stable this year SAMP will be the highlight of all banks! Mergers and Acquisition amongst DP related firms will be very profitable for both the acquiring and target firms...

That's one good brief analysis Rapa... Thanks...

Interestingly, I never checked on HNB So didnt know it was trading @ 1xPBV.. Ideally we should go with any financial institute that trades <2x PBV so in that case both HNB (better) and COMB are winners. Why COMB offers less dividend may be due to keeping money as a security. A long long time ago, a friend worked for COMB told me that if the band would have to be closed, they could still afford to pay their employees another 5 years without any income.. This may be the reason for the lower dividends.

This is realised when I was doing that small snapshot some time back for the research section. At that time and even now, I always concentrated on HNB and SAMP mainly due to some of the reasons mentioned here. For me, HNB is trading at a discount compared to COMB and I cannot justify that myself.

Another point is the NV discount, or should we call it the voting premium, does not make sense for me here. HNB NV simply is more attractive to the small investor compared to HNB N but then again we need to consider how the market takes the voting feature of the share into account.

I think it all depends on foreign interests.. usually in banking sector first foreign choice is comb.
for example, JKH which is over valued counter considering earnings for last two quarters (EPS 3.68 6m- PER forward - 32) still the foreign favorite compare to Hayleys (EPS 11.83 6m, PER forward - 12.6)..

@Rapa, Nice explanation of facts. Plus am happy because I'm already in HNB.X. Avg cost around 112.00. So waiting for a better time.

I have gone through forecast results of 3-4 brokering houses and they predict HNB to post results of between 22-25/- this year. HNB report approx 20/- last year. Taking a conseravtive 22/-, NV is trading below PE 6. Their dividen will be almost same as last year i feel and they have issued 2 debentures last year if i am not mistaken

Taking this into account they are poised to grow faster than others and may possibly overtake COMB in term of profit after tax next 1-2 years unless COMB springs a surprise.

TO me a fair value to decide whether to exit for HNB NV would be PE of 9-10 if voting trades between 11-12X. This will still keep share price below PBV < 2. Exit will depend on Banks future prospects and market sentiment..

Cheers!

I had decided to sell my COMB and switch to HNB NV since they are both same price and i get a good deal share. The reason i decided to hold to COMB was foreign interest will attract a premium and mergers and acquisition of COMB will be solid..

I hold both shares

Cheers

You cannot let go and let the share make it own course. If it a valued share it will go up. We do not need you
to say it everyday. I think I have said this enough time.

I also saw you below comment in another thread. But I now see you don't mean the below but do it intentionally.
