Btw, is your margin provider your stock broker itself? Did they give you 1.7 million credit over Rs 1 mil cash. That over 150% credit right.

Total gain realized and unrealized is Rs 508,000. Investment is Rs 1mn. 9 months gain is 51%. Software i am using is DFN broker version. Broker is Asia Securities, I know them and I could go upto 10mn margin trading facility without security.

wow great. to use this software we need to 1 Million LKR right. then with 1 Million is it possible to buy 10Mn worth share. through software buy and sell yourself right. so this mean with 1Mn Lkr within 9 months you earn half million profit right.wow great.

Thanks for the broker. So it is special arrangement  we cannot get. Usually max margin given is about 50% and maybe 100% with certain parties ( we hear CT give 100% or more during certain times) . Your credit  is just wow .  If they give without even  security of an equity is it not margin even right?  Its just like a special gift  for you   .  So people like us cannot get such for sure.    

I think we are looking at   profit gains  differently.

How I see it is though your original cash is Rs 1 million  the  majority of the  balance  is money you owe your broker ( credit or margin or whatever ) when you sell you portfolio.

So the portfolio performance =      overall profit gain   /   (  initial cash + broker credit you owe + interest paid to broker )

Overall profit gain  = cash realized + unrealized capital gain



TWOD should be written off , but  it should be no problem as it is very small.  Have you looked at LALU instead of ALUM.

What kolaveri ? We are discussing about common people like us getting credit, various ways of calculating portfolio gains etc.

So far SStar portfolio is performing okay I think.

credit facility from the broker is special. Although I have 10mn margin facility I have utilized only 1.5mn. Just 150%. So I don't have any unfair advantage.

I still dont understand why LIOC is not in the list, is it because a personal dislike..... some times i too tend to be like that ...and i remember mentioning it somewhere in a thread .... and i have missed good opportunity or 2...

I exited from LIOC share few years ago at Rs 49 after the IPO and since then haven't bought recently. Share never picked up during previous bull run, but it picked up during current bull. I am skeptical about their future growth due to transfer pricing. Most Indian companies exited from Market at a profit and I wonder what their long term strategy. This is a strategic asset to India which has a strategic value, so they wil run it irrespective of the profits or loss. 

LIOC Profitability is temporary to me. Because the owners of IOC know that moment they show a big profit from LIOC, government of Sri Lanka is going ask LIOC to reduce fuel prices. Elections are around the corner so, you better be prepared for a surprise.

Business with Government has element of high political risk.

Very nice portfolio. Though I like value stocks I added few growth stocks so that I can compare in the future. I sold EXPO when it was trading around Rs.10 may be I must have covered my cost or must have made some losses. Still this can go around Rs.15 level when bull market becomes very strong. I added SHL as one of my growth stocks in the portfolio. Still I prefer value stocks. Many stocks have at least 50% upside potential when bull market becomes very strong. If you get more than 100% return please post again. In your portfolio you have peace of cake in almost every sector. I like to target stocks in the accumulation stage and stocks which are having pause or short pull backs now. We may see one of the active period for the CSE during next eight months. who knows Some of you stock may go up by more than 50%. Hopefully if everything goes well some of your stocks could outperform the market. Sofar some sectors in the economy is doing well. Income from Tea, garment and other industrial industrial exports in July and August have gone up when compare with corresponding last year. Foreign remittances also have gone up. Tourists numbers also is looking good. Russian and Ukraine ceasefire should give some support for global peace and economy. Rain will give some boost for Agriculture. Stocks should go up due to following reasons: on valuations, due to growth prospects, strong earnings and speculation etc. Your portfolio consists with all types of stocks. Good luck!

If I reach 100% returns (ROI) in next few months, then I won't wait for 2 years, instead I will exit from the market. I am not too greedy. 50% p.a return is more than enough for me. My average opportunity cost of funds is less than 15%

SSTAR, to tell you frankly, I think you are another gilmartist in this forum. because you are the only person in the forum who don't like LIOC. if you had bought LIOC, your profits would have double triple than this.
