I heard it is published in Fisheries Ministry web site, some of the countries like Denmark has lifted the ban, just check I coulndnt locate it. If such thing happened it shd be in news.

IMPLEMENTATION OF VESSEL MONITORING SYSTEM (VMS) OF THE FISHERIES MINISTRY

Signing of the Agreement for the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development took place at the Ministry office today (12). The signing of the Agreement relating to this Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) took place under the patronage of the Hon. Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development.

On behalf of Sri Lanka, the Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Dr. D. M. R. B. Dissanayake signed while on behalf of the Visma Consulting A/S Denmark Company the Chief Executive Officer Mr. Carsten Mollare, and the Business Manager, Mr. Miekal Confelds singed. In the recent past, the consternation that took place regarding implementing laws by the European Union, prohibiting the export of fish from Sri Lanka, the main reason was the delay in the process of establishing a Vessel Monitoring System (VMS). Immediately with the start of this Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) 50, Sri Lankan Multi day fishing crafts engaged in fishing, in the international waters will be subjected to Monitoring.

Accordingly from this, for the first time, the introduction of high techniques to the fishermen, saving of lives of the fishermen by giving information in emergency situations, the instantaneous observation of the fishing vessel locations in the sea while being in the land, the possibility of punishing those fishing vessel which are engaged in illegal fishing by entering to sea strips of other lands, forecasting of weather conditions and informing of sudden dangerous situations, and identifying the fish density etc, and many other services are performed.

On this occasion the Hon. Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said,

"The work involved with the Vessel Monitoring System, and due to the laws and regulations was launched in the year 2010. But due to the issues involved with procurement system and laws and regulations in our country, for nearly for 4 years the starting of this Vessel Monitoring System got delayed. But today we won and that work is being launched. Due to this the first direction of the European Union we are starting today. Owing to this it would be possible to remove the restriction of the European Union that is to be imposed with effect from 15th January. For this I am expecting to meet the heads of the European Union and report the progress to them.
