I am quoting below excerpts from a media briefing given by some of the oldest politicians still craving to be Ministers at any cost to the public. They were one time strong leaders, leading the leftist movements defending the peoples rights. When these political parties lost their clout and became bankrupt President Rajapakse appointed them to the parliament and gave them ministries. They have been political stooges and yes men and now finding fault with their saviour because they lost their ministryship, perks. benefits etc. It is time for these old politicians to go home without hanging onto power being a economic burden to the country and the people.

Vasudeva Nanayakkara alleged that the SLFP caused a fatal mistake by giving up the government immediately after losing the presidential election. Nanayakkara said constituent members of the SLFP-led coalition partners had not been consulted by the SLFP prior to reaching an understanding with newly-elected President.Nanayakkara said that there was no precedent of a newly elected President taking oaths so fast swearing in a new Prime Minister immediately afterward. That brought an end to UPFA administration. Vitharana described the SLFP action as betrayal. Nanayakkara emphasized that Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe’s government wasn’t a temporary arrangement. Having declared that left parties wouldn’t support the new government in any way, Nanayakkara said, however, that in accordance with an understanding among Socialist Alliance members, they would back support implement the implementation of 100-day programme. Vasudeva alleged that the former President Rajapaksa had committed another fatal mistake by agreeing to give up leadership of the party. Emphasizing that surrender shouldn’t be an option. He also said that the left parties were not agreeable to the much-talked about national government concept.
