With the news of AAIC to be disposed by ACAP, triggered the upward movements of ACAP & AAIC...but there could be a 3rd party , which also can move up with the news...guess who...!...it's the buyer..., then lets guess the possible buyers

01. DIST - led by Harry Jayawardene [Continentel Insurance]
DIST have a massive cash balance due to GOV re payment of SLIC investments

02. JINS - led by Prakash Shafter [Janashakthi Insurance]
JINS recently reported a good profits & also the group has some cash received by the disposal of LAMB

03. HASU - Led by HNB, HASU already with right issue cash & HNB is on the way for a right issue [HASU -HNB Assurance]

04. VONE - Led by Mr. Dhammika Perera [Valibel One] the Valibel One is a diversified group with Banking, Finance, Hospitality, Manufacturing etc... the Group do not have an Insurance arm which could in return bring massive funds for re investments. With the IPO & PP VONE will have the strength to finance the buying of AAIC

05. SOFT - Led by Mr. Pathirage, SOFT is also a diversified group with ASIRI Hospital group, Soft Logic Finance, Ford Motor Agency, National Panasonic authorized dealership ect ect in their fold and is about to launch the IPO on 9th June. being a fast growing conglomerate we can not decline any interest of SOFT getting into Insurance Business

06. Imagewise Group - Led by Mr Dilith Jayaweera & Varuni Amunugama, observing their recenst history of investing in colombo stock market & acquisition of major stakes of REEF, CLND & PAP...there is very little possibility for this AAIC deal skip their glove..!

Now start the guessing Game...!

Even though DIST is focusing on core businesses, there is a strong possibility as they have the related knowledge.

well i also think RICH "MIGHT" go for it since in the annual report also the Chairman said they subscribed to the rights issue in order to keep the holding without dilution, since they have already 25% i don't think they will have serious issue of obtaining another 26%.

like other members said the companies mention above also have the possibility, like DIST having enough cash, softlogic got some cash with the IPO etc, so will wait and see how the transaction is moving

I think RICH is going to buy AAIC. They already have 25%. Dr. Sena Yaddehige has given an interview to Business Times of the Sunday Times today (19-06-2011) and said that they are interested in buying another 25% of AAIC. Also the paper article says that ACAP is going to dispose their stake of AAIC for a consideration of around Rs. 4.5 Bn.

There were massive selling of some selected shares during last week. Who sold them? Why they sold their shares? Are they getting ready for something big?

Some shares were traded in large quantities, some shares came down in price and some shares went up in price. Who was trying to raise money? Who was selling for profits? Why should someone make losses?

RICH is the closet one but they are looking to expand Arpico chain. So need money for that & could end up selling their stake.

LOLC & BRWN are also spending money on hotel refurbishments. Cost of this refurbishment is in billions not millions.

DIST is sitting on a pile of cash but not like Casino money, generally they do nt pay premiums to acquire new businesses.

Who is going to do the deal?

How about the DJ group or DP group. There is a posibility of a foreign investor's entry as well. Do not forget major potion of equity of this company is presently held by foriegn investors.(pl. correct me if I am wrong).

If ACAP is going to sell AAIC for 4.5 billion from 73% of their holdings the share should pass 330/= when they deal.
Do your studies........
