JB Securities has a very informative online trading site and I had a look at the situation of the ASI(All Share Index) and MPI(Milanka Price Index) at the start of the year. On 03/01/2011 (Monday) they read as follows:

ASI - 6657.96
MPI - 7061.42

Today it reads as follows:

ASI - 6927.74
MPI - 6516.46

So, actualy, as at today ASI has gained only 269.78 points, while the MPI has dropped by 544.96 points. If a market is to drop substantialy, first it has to appreciate substantialy. But going by the above figures we are almost where we started and I dont think the market has much room to drop any further. Some fundementaly strong shares are allready trading at unbeleivably bargain prices. Also I remember a very reputed stock broking company predicting during the end of last year, that the ASI should end 2011, around 10,000 - 11,000 level. Therefore I feel this is a consolidation stage and the market would give very good returns during the comming months.
These are my views only. Please correct me if I am wrong.

You are wrong. Very very wrong. Why on earth do you think people should completely forget everything that happened before the 1st of January? Why do you chose to ignore that the market gained more than 4500 points between June 2009 and Oct 2010? Be aware that a prolonged bear can wipe out 50% of the gains achieved by the bull sometimes 66% so don't be surprised if the ASI ends up at around 4500 levels when this is over.

Hmm Like in great depression 1929....... But that boom in 2009 June to Oct 2010 did not happen without any reason.. It had good reasons.. War is over and stocks started to show great earnings...
I know there are still lot of over valued stocks in CSE they will continue to fall....

I would say in worst case (if government let market to correct itself) ASI would fall to 6000

All Share Price Index (ASPI)

The value-weighted price index, which incorporates all the voting ordinary shares listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE). The base year is 1985, and the base value of the index is 100. This is the broadest and the longest measure of the level of the Sri Lankan stock market.

Any body knows how to calculate ASI.

Any way check the beta value for your share against ASI it shows how vulnerable your share to ASI variations in the past (of course..) If it shows negative value.... GOOD your share will go up.. I did not find any share with negative beta value... If you know let me know...
