We are known as a nation, or rather, as a race known for our tendency to forget. We tend to forget soon. Too soon. Being so, can anyone now remember how elated people were before the presidential election? Can anyone remember how even the children were clamoring “Gota! Gota!” thinking that Gota would be the answer to all our woes.
But some 100+ days later what have we got?
We were given an eye treatment of a very colorful wall painting campaign. It fizzled out quietly and then a re-cultivation of abandoned paddy fields (“puran kumburu aswadduma”) made headlines. Then came the infamous Ranjan tapes that shook the whole nation to it’s very core.
Everyone forgot about the escalating cost of living and the dollar sky rocketing day after day. (Here I’m tempted to use that financial pundit Bandula Gunawardne’s words “ ලංකා ‘ඉතිආසේ’ කවදාවත් නැති විදියට ඩොලරය ‘ඉඅල ගීල්ලා’...sic!)
We simply care no more about the “Bank heist.” We do not care when the PM goes to India and says that the country is bankrupt. We do not see how GR keeps appointing ex military personnel to all the important offices. We do not see or care when military guys with no notion of civilian traffic controlling are sent on to the roads to control traffic under the president’s orders. No one seems to be wondering if these could be the first steps toward an eventual military government. Now we are dazed by the latest gimmick of a president walking in to rice and vegetable stalls and asking the vendors their buying and selling prices. We are dazed by a president who walks into hospitals asking the patients waiting for treatment “ ඔයා මොකද ආවෙ?”  Laughing Laughing
Though we are duped into silence by all kinds of ruses the world out there is watching. All the signals they are getting are red. A failing nation that is begging for time to repay the debts. A military presence that is unwarranted. A government headed by a former military man asking for a two thirds majority at the oncoming election. (Remember power corrupts.) An impotent opposition that is riddled with their own problems created by the greed for power.
No wonder the foreigners are getting the hell out. As anyone with an unbiased view can see Corona is not the only reason for the stock market crumbling. The market will no doubt remain flat for some time to come but….
Take heart my friends. as the saying goes this may be a blessing in disguise. Make hay while the sun shines. Now is the time. Collect all you can and sweep them under the carpet. One fine day, sooner or later, the “sudda” buggers will be back looking for good stuff to pick. Then we’ll all have our day! Cool Cool

Foreign buying is a major factor in pushing the market to healthy positions. As long as the liquidity problem is solved, it doesn’t matter which way the market goes providing the companies keep growing and making money. If the local funds enter the market, which they have to if the market gives you this good opportunities there’s nothing to worry.

Yeah foreigners started this downtrend. But that debt premium postponed right? As i remember with the last discussions of PM had with china.

Yes exports down. Tourist arrivals declined by 20% or 30%. Mostly corona effect. Worldwide markets also bloody red.

However this drop is a good chance. GE is also coming in next month. Corona won't last longer i guess.

Also this government will take care of srilankan economy. At least better than last 5 years. We can expect more with GR.

But it is our duty to elect good honest people to parliament.

Srilanka is having a hard time. Good luck for our land.

Not that bad as u described. However if you blame GR, what is the option? Is it AKD? Is it SP?

Sometimes we have to choose the better option. Searching for the"best" which doesn't exist won't work.
