This is a mathamatical quiz I got one of my friend and still trying to solve it Very Happy

, see if you can give me a hand here, the question is;
You have 100 Rs. and you go to the market to buy vegetables, there are three things you want to buy Jackfruit seed - 5 cents each, coconut - 2 Rs each, Papaya - 5 Rs each. Now you want to by for your 100 Rs. and should comply with the below terms;
Term #1. You have to finish 100 Rs. and the buying sum should be exactly 100 Rs.
Term #2. You have to buy 100 items, and should include at least 1 item from each vegetables mentioned above
How many of each you have bought?

mathematically you need another term or trial and error method Smile

good point mate! I was about to mention it, don't bother remembering when were you able to buy at these levels, try to solve it.

20 minutes in a excel sheet.. no luck with the answer ( may be no brain ) Very Happy

tried in an excel sheets after getting two equations.
it is impossible to get a whole number Smile

according to your question there are 3 unknowns but only two equations can be made. So, there is no definite answer but a set of answers. The matrix equations are attached.

Let me explain you guys of my most successful approach;

argument #1: You have to buy either 20, 40, 60 or 80 from 5 cents items, because if you buy one more or less item of 5 cents outside the quantities I mentioned, there will be either 5 cents short short to buy another item or 5 cents left after buying other items

Nope. No whole numbers. As a matter of fact, when checked for all values of z (1 to 99) none of the values for x and y become positive. Looks like this is an unsolvable one Evil or Very Mad

@traderJack is half correct.
But since we know that each one must have atleast 1 and maximum of 98 then we can solve the equation Laughing

Method :
as the papaya is the highest value one to take the total Rs.100 it should only need 20 papayas (in this case maximum of 18 because we need at least 1 seed and 1 coconut) So we have to assume a value to number of papayas and solve for the number of coconuts and Seeds. (Just start from 1 and go to 18)

Result:
As computers are good at these things i wrote a simple programe and this is what I got

Papaya = 8
Seeds = 64
Coconut = 28

Total
8X5 + 64X0.05 + 28x2 = 99.2

There are no other integers that satisfies the given requirements in this range.

Conclution:
Your question is wrong.
or is it? (looking for errors in the code non found yet) Shocked

@Everybody, I'm pretty much sure the question is correct the way I heard it. But let me ask my friend the question again, I also wrote a vba and it gave me the same result. I suspect something is wrong somewhere or there is some trickery involved. Let me check with my friend again and let you know the question again if there is anything wrong with it. for that have to wait until tomorrow since the time here is 12.06am. By the way, would you like to solve another question?? this one already solved, so I know the answer, let me know if you guys want to see this one

I agree too. The question is wrong. Xhora, i tried a simple loop too, to check for all values of 1-100 for the seeds, but it wont give any positive whole number answers Very Happy

72496 is (7+2+4),(9+6) = 13,15 = 1315
62134 is (6+2+1),(3+4) = 9,7 = 97
85316 is (8+5+3),(1+6) = 16,7 = 167
28439 is (2+8+4)(3+9) = 14,12 = 1412

I think we should stop with this otherwise people will report this to QB as irrelevant as brains seems to be an optional requirement for share trading these days at CSE.
But please post the answer to the 1st one we are waiting Wink

1st IQ should change this
seed - 5 cents each, coconut - 1 Rs each, Papaya - 5 Rs each

Answer
80 seeds =80*.05 = 4
1 coconut = 1*1 = 1
19 papaya = 19*5=95

Total Rs 100
