I am with capital trust.
Sometimes when I put sell order via DirectFN system it reject the order saying 'available quantity exceeds'.
I contact help desk of capital trust. But they can not say why or correct the problem. They asked me a screen shot of my PF,order list and error message which I have sent.
Still no solution.
Does anyone face such a problem?

I think that happens because you have already put some sell orders.
If you have 1000 share and you have put a sell order previously for 600 shares. Now you put a sell order for 500 shares. As you have only 400 shares to sell, you get the message.

I get this error in such cases. Not sure it's the exact error message. I think it is.

Smile

There are 3 reason this can happen
1) As already explained if you already have a sell order ( previously placed) and the new order exceeds you total number of shares you will get this message

2) Sometime I found there is an error with Direcfn order queses. A order you placed before and later you cancelled , sometimes remain in the system ( the order is not active) and it shows as sell pending sell order.
The way to check this
a) go to sell order book
b) try to place a sell order and check whether there are shares held as pending sales

Sometimes I also notice after few weeks this goes away. This seems to be a bug with directfn

3) Maybe without you knowledge you broker placed a sell order. Then issue 1) can happen.

Yep. Me too had the same problem. Both in DirectFN & Atrad. But that got corrected the following day.

Hmm...
I faced similar problem sometimes. When checked, the portfolio was not updated properly. (May be due to some server sync error)
When I closed DFN and opened again, the problem was solved.

So try restarting the program next time.

I too encountered a similar problem with Asha Phillip DirectFN GTC order but when I contacted their IT dept. they rectified it immediately.

Experience with DirectFN is very cumbersome, application is packed with functionality but lack the good real time performance. u better trust the web version in my guess.

Yes slstock, I also have expereinced the second situation you mentioned above. This seems to be an error in the system and does not happen always. If I am desperate to place the sell order, I usually call my adviser. They can place the required order regardless of this error.

I also think the 2nd one may be the reason. Yesterday just before market close I tried to do an amendment. It did not get amended. Today morning I could not do anything. Then help desk cancelled all the orders. After that I got that exceeding quantity problem.
