Trade Summary Market - 25/04/2012 250410
Apr 25, 2012 (LBT) - The Dollar hitting a record high yesterday may have contributed to the lucklustre performance witnessed during trading today. The performance, however, mirrored the trading during the past few days adding little turnover with volumes continuing to be low. The rate of the Dollar against the rupee seems to have brought about concerns among certain sectors of the economy due to the volatility in the currency

The benchmark shed a marginal 1.52 points to close at 5,440 whilst the MPI of more liquid stocks shed 4.60 points to close at 4,886.Total turnover for the day was 312mn ( USD 2.3mn) whereas the volume traded was close to 21mn shares. No block trades were witnessed for the 3rd consecutive day, however turnover and volumes recorded higher figures than the past couple of days. Heavyweight JKH emerged as the top contributor during the day trading over 240,000 shares. The counter pumped over 50mn towards the days turnover and closed at Rs.205.30 shedding marginally. CIC continued to witness buying interest from institutions and traded over 315,000 shares for the day. The counter closed the day almost flat at Rs.100.

DFCC, COMB.X and LWL also witnessed attractive volumes trade during the day. The counters collectively pumped over 40mn towards the days day’s turnover and closed the day gaining marginally. Renewed interest was seen on caps COCO and DOCK as impressive volumes change hands. The counters gained 4.21% and 12% respectively to close the day on a positive note. Mackwoods energy PLC the latest company to be listed in the CSE commenced trading today. The counter reached an intraday high of Rs.16 during the early hours but went on to close the day at Rs.14.50 gaining marginally.

Retail activity also showed dull sentiments during the day as most retail favourite caps closed the day shedding marginally. SEC’s new directive to reduce debtors over T+30 which has triggered forced selling activities could be pointed out as the main reason behind this much volatility. Further, retail Volumes were topped by ATL ,SFS and SEMB.N whilst SIL emerged as the top gainer on thin trade.
