Day before yesterday, I went to one of seylan bank in gampaha district to open a savings account my mother. Because I prerpare an account for her to apply union bank. After prepare saving account , I asked to deposit the cheque. But Manager said that they accept only salaries cheque to deposit savings account.

But I successfully deposited My wife's account in HNB and father's account at sampath Bank. Sampath and HNB staff well treated and supported to me.

1.Guys, do you have seylan bank accounts and do they accept CSE transction cheques in your branches.

2.Guys what u recommend to best banks to open new savings account to deposit CSE transction cheques. (Pls menioned wheather they issue ATM card at the time of creating account)

Note : I wont to demote seylan bank here but I share only my personal experince.

Accepting any cheque to the savings accounts is with the policy of the bank, sometimes back when i tried to deposit IPO refund cheque in a particular bank savings account they politely refused saying that they will not entertain the IPO refunds cheque to the savings account, as you mentioned they also entertain my salary cheque

I don't have any accounts with the bank u referred or any big investment on that share, it is better if you can edit the Title of the Post, because when see the title it looks damaging the reputation of the company, which our admin, moderators and members wanted to MINIMISE

Nothing personal dear friend

Have an account with NSB. They accept any cheques in your name.

And commercial bank...they also accept cheques to a savings account.

if you had all these main accounts at one place this problem has less chance of arising.
I understand that these are of three different people in your family. Anyway u have mentioned u opened the seylan a/c recently. I think the bank is within their rights to refuse specially since the account is new (i assume the customer is too) SA is not meant to handle cheques anyway.

In my early days I had accounts in almost all banks, but now I realized the importance of dealing with one bank. Same with a Stock broker. Would give more bargaining power.

100% true ...saving accc are not for handling cheques....but if the bank belives that you are reliable enough the do accept cheques....sampth bank at my area does so since the bank manager is known to me .. Smile

I deposit my cheques at Seylan Bank.. The other bank I deposit is at Commercial Bank. I have not faced any problem so far. For convenience I deal with these two banks. I find it very easy to deal with people in both these banks, but still I feel very homely with people at Seylan.
I agree with npp and wikum 100. When we are more familiar to them, in dealing with all bank activities we become reliable too. So it is better to deal with a bank of our choice continuously. We will be able to get more facilities easily.

Good luck

I opened a savings account @ peoples bank last week. When i received the refund check i deposited it in my account. They accepted it even though my account is new. Its depend on the manager. They have the right not to accept. bounce

Actually I have a Seylan SA with me and I have been depositing all my IPO and dividend cheques in it. And well over time I have seen about four managers Smile

I think it is due to the account being new. When I first presented it they spent some time on it and accepted it saying since it is a cheque issued by a company they will accept it.
