There's no reason to market go to 4000s and there was no reason for market to go to 6000s. Why did it go up so much in the last few weeks? Was the companies making massive profits? Economy doing really well?
Sri Lankan lost another proposal against human rights (Warning: last line is sarcasm)?

Colombo exchange is moving through a time of volatility and is looking for direction. This volatile movement will prevail at least for the next two months. Markets move on news and some of the unknown variables must be added to the macroeconomic outlook for the market to take direction. I believe the country's 2013 budget will provide an ample doze of direction. We are still nowhere close to fixing the ailing southern European debt problems and exports to Europe will be a key focus. Chinese economy is proving a bit resilient than expected to the slowing demands and that would prove positive. Earnings will be another unknown. Unlike in most economies, Sri Lankan conglomerates hardly provide any direction to their business outlook for the coming year and that would cloud some of the information. Sri Lanka's debt is over 90% of the GDP as of August and there are questions as to how long this debt can be serviced with falling revenues. Drought should have shaved off a point from GDP already. Three ratings agencies usually issue their ratings on the heels of IMF review during mid quarter. To some degree Nov 6th elections will impact Sri Lanka too. News will provide the direction. Market moving up or down is irrelevant to an investor. Wealth is created both ways.
