Share market wrapped its weekly operations on Friday with mixed returns where All share price index marginally advanced by 2.47 points (+0.04%) to close at 5,795.66 and S&P SL 20 index marginally dipped by 3.77 points (-0.12%) to close at 3,185.67. Price appreciations in Lanka Orix Leasing (closed at LKR 75.00, +4.90%), Carson Cumberbatch (closed at LKR 350.00, +2.28%) and Distilleries (closed at LKR 189.00, +2.16%) contributed positively to ASI performance whereas price depreciations in Ceylon tobacco (closed at LKR 1,145.00, -0.35%), Asian Hotels and Properties (closed at LKR 63.00, -5.83%) and Bukit Darah (closed at LKR 625.00, -1.56%) contributed to the dip in the S&P SL 20 index.

Daily market turnover was LKR 415mn. John Keells Holdings emerged as the top contributor (LKR 127mn) to the market turnover underpinned by the negotiated deal (approx. 0.4mn shares at LKR 214.90) while Hatton National Bank non-voting positioned as second highest contributor (LKR 83mn) with the support of a crossing ( 0.7mn shares at LKR 116.60) followed by Distilleries (LKR 25mn).

Further, The Finance non-voting (closed at LKR 4.40, +22.22%), voting (closed at LKR 12.00, +14.29%) and Lanka Orix Leasing Company (closed at LKR 75.00, +4.9%) were among mostly traded stocks for the session.

Meanwhile, Abans finance debenture opened for subscriptions today and interestingly managed to attract heavy investor interest and was closed today itself due to oversubscription.

Foreign participation was 43% where foreign investors were net sellers for the day with a net selling of LKR 42mn.

Cash map closed at 52%.

The Colombo bourse closed virtually flat yesterday with the indices marginally pointing in opposite directions – the ASPI up 2.47 points (0.04%) and S&P SL20 down 3.77 points (0.12%) on a turnover of Rs.414.7 million, up from the previous day’s Rs.247.7 million, with 54 losers and 52 gainers almost on even keel while 120 counters closed flat.

"Volumes were slow with bulk of the business coming off crossings in HNB (non-voting) and JKH which contributed over Rs.163 million to the day’s business volumes," a broker said.

A single parcel of 0.7 million HNB (non-voting) was crossed at Rs.116.60 contributing Rs.81.6 million to turnover while a parcel of 4 million JKH crossed at Rs.214.90 contributed Rs.81.6 million, brokers said.

JKH was the most traded stock on the floor closing 10 cents up at Rs.215 on over 0.2 million shares done between Rs.214.10 and Rs.215.50 contributing Rs.45.1 million to turnover.

Distilleries followed closing Rs.4 up at Rs.189 on over 0.1 million shares done between Rs.189 and Rs.190 generating a business volume of Rs.24.8 million with Ceylon Tea Services finishing third on the turnover league closing Rs.10 down at Rs.590 on 28,134 shares contributing Rs.16.6 million to turnover.

"Earlier in the week we saw a parcel of 30,000 CTS done at Rs.590 followed by a single share transacted minutes later at a price of Rs.640 with the counter eventually closing 30 cents down at Rs.640," a broker said.

CTS is a closely-held company with the MJF group being the predominant shareholder.

Non-voting shares of The Finance Company demonstrated volume yesterday closing 80 cents up at Rs.4.40 on 3.5 million shares done between Rs.3.80 and Rs.4.50. Brokers said that many of these shares had been issued to deposit holders against fixed deposits in the troubled finance company.

Counters that posted price gains yesterday included Central Finance up Rs.2.90 to Rs.175 on 70,788 shares, Seylan Bank up Rs.1.40 to Rs.66.50 on over 0.1 million shares and The Finance voting shares closing Rs.1.50 up at Rs.12 on over 0.7 million shares.

Expolanka closed flat at Rs.7.30 on over 1.1 million shares while LOLC gained Rs.3.50 to close at Rs.75 on 80,996 shares.

Trans Asia Hotels announced an interim dividend of Rs.1.50 per share for 2013/14, XD from Dec. 26 and with payment on Jan.7 while Cargills announced an interim dividend of 70 cents per share for 2013/14, XD from Dec. 26 and with payment on Jan. 6.
