The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) has zeroed in on 11 potential firms to go public, officials said.

“We initially met 30 firms and now we have had discussion with 11 potential firms to go for Initial Public Offerings (IPO). Out of these about six firms are working on their IPO applications,” a senior CSE official told the Business Times.

The CSE is also planning a roadshow next August with the Board of Investment in a move to capitalize on the Crown Casino project investment by Australian Casino mogul James Packer.

“We’re going to Singapore in January and in March Abu Dhabi,” he said, adding that in May and June CSE will be in London and New York roadshows.

Crown casino project will be a high voice, high adventure & high drama. Remarkable event that investors are waiting for.....regardless of pros & cons..

Very few new IPOs are of good quality. The latest good quality IPO was LGL. What CSE needs is not to improve quantity but quality. With many non-performing entities trading at inflated prices market is not stable and very risky.

CSE should rise the bar in terms of quality of companies to be listed.

If Packer's project is indeed a mixed development project based heavily on tourism and leisure, there is no harm in giving the green light. But if it is largely (or purely) gambling with tourism on sidelines, It must be all red lights for Packer.
