The Colombo bourse yesterday closed flat after the Christmas holiday with the lowest turnover for the year of Rs.114.9 million, down from the previous day’s Rs.246.4 million, with the All Share Price Index gaining 2.56 points (0.04%) and S&P SL20 declining 2.01 points (0.06%) with 107 gainers ahead of 87 losers and 127 counters closing flat.

"The market was very dull as is usual during the festive season," a broker said.

"There was a little accumulation and hardly any retail activity with a crossing in Commercial Bank (voting) of 485,000 shares at Rs.122 yielding Rs.59.2 million turnover the biggest deal for the day."

John Keells Stock brokers reported: "The ASPI picked up during the latter hours of trading to end marginally higher with turnover levels recorded being the lowest for the year."

There was a foreign inflow of Rs. 54.10 million with purchases of Rs. 66.63 mn. And sales of Rs. 12.53 mn.

On the trading floor, Odel was the biggest business generator closing 90 cents up at Rs.21 on nearly 0.2 million shares done between Rs.20.10 and Rs.21 contributing Rs.3.9 million to turnover

Blue Diamonds (voting) followed closing flat at Rs.3.60 on slightly over a million shares done between Rs.3.50 and Rs.3.70 contributing Rs.3.7 million to turnover while LIOC closed 60 cents up at Rs.32.90 on 0.1 million shares done between Rs.32.20 and Rs.33.10 contributing Rs.3.4 million to turnover.

Other most traded stocks included NTB gaining Rs.1.40 to close at Rs.62.50 on 48,184 shares, JKH closing Rs.1.20 down at Rs.220 on 12,514 shares and Ceylinco Insurance closing Rs.7.70 down at Rs.1,340 on 2,027 shares.

Ceylon Tea Services, an illiquid counter, gained Rs.31.10 to close at Rs.680 on 2,035 shares traded between Rs.650 and Rs.680.

Commercial Bank (voting) closed 40 cents up at Rs.122 on 16,121 shares traded on the floor while Textured Jersey closed 10 cents down at Rs.15.10 on slightly over 0.1 million shares transacted.
