Former Minister Bandula Gunawardhana says that about 70,000 private sector breadwinners have been hit by the super gain tax brought in by the new Government’s interim budget.

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake participating in the ‘Balaya’ political discussion programme telecast via Hiru TV last night rejected former Minister Gunawardhana’s statement saying that the statistics given by the former Minister were false.

While Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake and Uva Chief Minister Harin Fernando participated in the Balaya programme telecast yesterday representing the Government, MPs Bandula Gunawardhana and Wijith Vijeyamuni Soysa participated in the programme representing the Opposition.

The following is the discussion that took place between Finance Minister Ravi Karunaratne and MP Bandula Gunawardhana about the Super Gain Tax. Hirutv.lk

Former minister Bandula should clearly state to public how he determined 70,000 breadwinners who are hit because of super gain tax. Is it through unemployment or pay cut etc...Also, to which category of population that number include..( upper middle, middle, lower middle or lower class etc.. ). Any comment should be supported by fact & findings acceptable to general public who could re-think of...

Employees benefits will have to curtail. Isn't it? I mean bonus, allowances and other welfare..training allocations. I heard that already Sampath bank is planning to curtail production incentive bonus. No idea whether it is correct or not.

Many more, over 100000 small and medium scale shareholders are also affected . No dividends or less dividends in the current financial year.
