I noticed there was some interest on plantation stocks during last couple of days despite short term issues in the plantation sectors such as wage issues and lower tea rubber and palm oil prices etc?

Quantity traded for some stocks were much higher than normal other days in the past while having increased share prices . Eg: over 100,000 to 500,000 shares! Is something cooking in the plantation sector?

Any reason for this?

Buy elpl, jst go through there financials. Gud eps levels, well below P/E ratio levels compared to sector P/E ratio n nav is double the market price. Only downside low dividend yield compared to few profitable companies.
If they can manage these kind of profitability levels during these dire tyms, jst think how they will perform when tea n rubber prices turnaround. Long term stock cause don't expect rubber n tea have major upside near terms but they will manage to maintain current profitability levels next few yrs.

I don’t think many plantation companies will make profit in this quarter. After dropping tea average prices below Rs.380, now it is trading around Rs.400 still below the cost of production. Next tea averages prices to watch are Rs.450 and Rs.500. We should watch coming UVA tea season and Western high grown quality season. Hopefully, if everything goes well it should pass average prices of Rs.500 to make attractive profits for tea companies.

However, there are well managed tea companies in this sector and they can outperform others in the group. It is also time to study long term trend for tea.It will take some time to recover global rubber and palm oil prices in the global market. On the other hand we can see sudden recovery and turnaround in tea prices globally.

Today we are seeing one of the biggest one day rallies for KGAL. It is up by more than 50%. As I said before just like for KGAL there will be sudden surge for out of favour stocks and sectors in the future. It is time to identify some out of favour stocks as well. Plantations sector was one of the least favourite sectors in the CSE. No industry, stocks or sector will stay in the same place for a long time. We should see stronger uptrend for plantations stocks in the future too. It is time to identify future winners.

Can expect realistic dividend of 1rs from elpl. Which is 5% dividend yield. Can expect it to reach 30 levels when all labour problem resolved. Hoping directors n Harry jayawardena becomes crazy n declare dividend like kgal plantation. Elpl has 20eps as reatianed earnings.
