Colombo bourse snapped the seven day winning streak on Monday to start the weekly operation on negative note.
The market lost the positive momentum gained in last week as the bench mark All Share Price Index weakened by 14.10 points or 0.20% to end at 7,147.86 whilst S&P SL 20 index marginally declined by 6.23 points (-0.16%) to end at 4,007.52.
During the last seven sessions the main index gained 238.17 points or 3.4% whereas 20-script S&P SL index gained 163.38 points or 4.2%.
Yesterday’s losses were mainly driven by price depreciation in primary blue chips such as Lanka Orix Leasing Company (closed at Rs 106.00, -0.9%), Commercial Bank (closed at Rs 168.00, -0.9%) and Aitken Spence Hotels (closed at Rs 76.20, -4.2%).
Daily market turnover was Rs647mn. Several crossings were recorded in John Keells Holdings (0.9mn shares at Rs 183 per share), Hatton National Bank non-voting (0.4mn shares at Rs 176 per share) and First Capital Holdings (1mn shares at Rs 40per share). Crossings accounted for 42% of the market turnover.
Further John Keells Holdings led the turnover list with Rs 182mn followed by Hatton National Bank non-voting (Rs 74mn), First Capital Holdings (Rs 42mn) and Grain Elevators (Rs 40mn). However, gainers outweighed the losers 109 to 82 while 57 counters remained unchanged. Cash map declined from 57% to 49%. Five counters inclined to 52wk high prices while six counters declined to 52wk low prices.
Lanka IOC was the top trader during the session subsequent to the news article regarding the commencement of bunkering operations at Trincomalee oil terminal. Counter closed at Rs 33.60, +1.5%.
