Take advantage of falling raw materials prices through production related companies

Prices of some commodities such as grain, rubber, palm oil, coal, gold, iron ore and Oil etc have been sliding thus far in 2015 due to a variety of reasons such as the strong dollar, weak demand in China, excess supplies due to major innovations in crop yields, well supplied oil and high carry out inventory level etc.

Should raw material  prices remain depressed, the best investment opportunities may lie with companies that benefit from these lower input costs, such as food producers, bakeries, cereal and meat producers, Air lines, Aircraft and ships manufactures, other manufacturing companies including plantation companies and transportation companies to name few.

Remember almost all sectors will benefit due to lower commodity and other raw material prices. I am in the process of studying and identifying companies which have more value and future prospects. Mostly air lines, transportation and distribution companies, production oriented companies including food and grain processing companies and plantation companies should benefit lot.  They use lot of energy and other raw materials and have more transportation as well. Even service oriented companies use energy and other raw materials.

Consumers will have more money in their pockets due to lower diesel and petrol. They will have more purchasing power now. So they will create more demand for other stuff.

Oil importing countries are top winners now.

Dear VP. I Think plantations havingsother way around this.  Because other than main crop (Tea) ,both Rubber and oil palm are their alternatives. So their margin should come down.  Is' nt it?

Plantation companies have factories. In addition, they use lot of transportation as well. So they are using lot of energy. Lower oil, gas and electricity prices will benefit them. On top of that USD is little bit strong against rupee although rupee devaluated in 2012(if I am correct) also is going to benefit tea export companies. Don’t forget lower interest rate as well.

One more thing to see in this sector is attractive tea prices above the cost of production and good prices for both rubber and palm oil. Tea doesn’t have derivative market as well. There are value stocks in the plantation sector. It is time to compare and study companies in the same group, identify value discrepancies and pick future great winners.  However in bull market momentum stocks also will have strong uptrend.

Cheaper grain generally benefits grain traders and processors companies. Lower rubber prices will benefit rubber based manufacturing companies.  Other cheaper raw materials will benefit automobile companies, ship and aircraft builders etc.

Indian rupee continues to sink; falls 29 paise at 65.83 against US dollar

After big sell off in Indian rupee in 2014 there had been some stability in their rupee and it appreciated against other currencies little bit. Now China’s Yuan currency drama has created another crisis as well opportunity for India. India’s huge oil bill will come down drastically. On the other hand there is a strong pressure for their rupee again. True their export companies will benefit but there will be other issues including imported inflation.

Those companies in Sri-Lanka which import raw materials and other agricultural products including different types of grain will become winners due to sell off in Indian rupee. In every situation there are winners and losers.
