Hi Friends,

I am going to invest 1 Mn  in around 10 shares. Just got the PE ratios and present prices of the market for the shares I think have potential to provide a good return. There are 36 shares in the list.

Please help me to select stocks that can give me 30 % returns after 1 year. But I put some 3 months targets as well. If price reached expected level then I may sell before 1 years time also.

Thanks lot in advance.

Thank you so much for your list. What a fantastic list? I really like them. This is very carefully selected list and even some fund mangers won’t be able to pick like this. Besides, you have listed them at the correct time. It has everything except out of favour group. Out favour stocks also can give big return in bull markets. You already have identified some  wining groups in the market.  I don’t know which one to pick now? I will have to do some home work.

Fist we have to have some idea about each industry (group) and its outlook in the coming months, quarters and years. There are about eight groups. We can screen them and can bring down to four or five groups according to the order of strong outlook. From there we should pick stocks that we like most based on the value, forward P/E, Peg ratio, future earnings, momentum, individual strategy and other factors that we want to see.

  • One option is pick one or two stocks in each category after doing some more home work.
  • Add some defensive stocks as well to get some benefit from final stage of current bull market.

Good luck.

Thanks nis2010.
I also think both LFIN & ACL will give good return. But I don't have much idea about CIND.

SDB increased from 90 to this level. Will it reach 200 by the end of 1 year??

Thanks for your valuable comment. Actually, since I am referring the Forum, it was easier to select these stocks.

But only issue is doing further home work while fighting against time.

What do you mean by Defensive stocks???

This is a good list. However, with 1mn, I will not invest in 10 stocks. Max 5 in different sectors. If I were you, I would pick BFL, GRAN, REXP, TJL & AEL/KAPI.

BFL is going to give min 50% gains within next 3months due to poultry sector going well. GRAN too will benefit from this as well the Rs depreciation. Plus TAFL will declare a dividend that will have a positive impact on GRAN. GRAN will also give a min 30% return in next 3 months.

REXP is trading at a discount to PE and PB multiple. Rs depreciation will help the stock move up. Since its trading at a discount, over 1 year you can make a min 30% return.

TJL has recently bought two companies which will expand their top line and due to scale economies, their margins will improve. In addition to capacity addition, Rs depreciation will also help. If SL gets the GSP+, that news alone would push the share price up by 50%.

AEL or KAPI will be good as it represents the construction sector. Even though projects have been stopped it will commence soon. Main benefifiacry would be KAPI with AEL also get few projects. AEL has better PE multiple because of that i would bet on AEL. Min 30% return over 6 months.

Put 200k in the above 5 stocks.

Cheers

In above list also mentioned vone. What r ur ideas about that. It's not going up but down day by day. I have it as a long term investment. But it concerns me lot because of the value drop.

Yahapalanaya I agree with some of your picks but you picking LWL n RCL is questionable. They're doing really well financially but all the news coming out from the govt is not gud for them.
Ravi is stating Sri Lanka construction cost is the highest n this is due to monopolistic nature. For sure they're going to remove import Levi on tiles. That'll impact domestic tile companies immensely.
This move will destroy the local tile manufacturing industry.

Yes I heard that news.

If Ravi or Cabinet remove import levi,it will be another blackmark for Yahapalanaya. It will affect local tile manufacturing, direct and indirect employees and minority shares holders of those companies. It is not a big problem for DP.

DP is talented person not like other two who got government construction contracts with influence and another one cheated investors by telling that he is going to construct hotel.

As I mention others may have different views.I acknowledge your points as well.

But I belive in DP's talent by watching his action over the years.Further I consider Company's Portfolio, oil price reduction, expecting construction sector boom from stable goverment, increased house construction or renovation due to salary increase..etc

Anyhow we will wait and see.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Fist we have to have some idea about each industry (group) and its outlook in the coming months, quarters and years. There are about eight groups. We can screen them and can bring down to four or five groups according to the order of strong outlook. From there we should pick stocks that we like most based on the value, forward P/E, Peg ratio, future earnings, momentum, individual strategy and other factors that we want to see.

  • One option is pick one or two stocks in each category after doing some more home work.
  • Add some defensive stocks as well to get some benefit from final stage of current bull market.

Good luck.

Thanks for your valuable comment. Actually, since I am referring the Forum, it was easier to select these stocks.

But only issue is doing further home work while fighting against time.

What do you mean by Defensive stocks???
Defensive stocks are kind of non-cyclical type. Defensive stocks are a good way to maintain long-term market exposure during periods of uncertainty. Defensive stocks include food, oil, health care and electricity etc. Even during bad times people need to keep their families warm and light their homes. So they need gas and electricity. They cannot postpone eating and drinking either. Even during period of war people need medicine. I am bullish on selected Asian consumer staples (food stocks).
