Jan 26, 2016 (LBO) – Sri Lanka’s government has spent over 22 million rupees for the foreign scholarships and training obtained by ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son former naval officer Yoshitha Rajapaksa, Chief Government Whip Gayantha Karunathilake alleged in Parliament.
On behalf of the defence minister, Karunathilake said that Lieutenant Y. K. Rajapaksha was recruited to the Sri Lanka Navy in 2006 without considering required educational qualifications.
Karunathilake further stated that Lieutenant Yoshitha Rajapaksa has participated in various foreign trainings during the period from 2007 to 2010 conducted in UK and Ukraine using government funds.
“Disciplinary action will be taken against him according to the report of the Navy tripartite committee that investigated the allegations leveled against him,” Karunathilake said.

Image_1454261009-1afe91c07aFormer President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s wife Shiranthi has been asked to report to the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PRECIFAC) tomorrow to obtain a statement on an order made by her to the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) directing it to allocate a house to one of her media officers at a valuation far below the market value.
The estimated value of the house in Kahathuduwa is Rs.5.5 million but it had been grossly undervalued at Rs.500, 000.

Yoshitha, Nishantha Remanded
Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and board members of the Carlton Sports Network (CSN) were arrested and remanded yesterday over alleged financial irregularities.
Rajapaksa, former Sri Lanka Cricket Board Secretary Nishantha Ranatunga and three others were remanded till February 11 by the Kaduwela Magistrate.
The owners and top management of the CSN were initially questioned at separate locations by the FCID with Yoshitha Rajapaksa being questioned at the Navy Headquarters and the others at the FCID office.
Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, his wife and family members were present in court after Yoshitha Rajapaksa was taken there while a large crowd was seen outside.
Yoshitha Rajapaksa was taken in the prison bus together with the others to the Welikada Remand Prison.
CSN was launched by Yoshitha Rajapaksa when Mahinda Rajapaksa was President and the network was given exclusive rights to cricket matches featuring Sri Lanka.
However, when the new government took office, CSN lost those rights and was being investigated by the FCID.

the sunday leader online version says it is valued as 50 million. but the dailymirror says 5.5 million.
there seems to be some error here about the real value.
