Guys this is my view on the CGT.
First of all if we think that CGT will be implemented from tax year 2015/16 the government will not earn any thing from stock market since April1 to March 31st is a period where investors has made lot of losses. And they will earn peanuts from lands and condominium sales since there was no boom in the market.

The only way government can earn a thumping tax from this tax is only if they implemented it with retrospective effect say from 2005 to 2015 then they can tax the past gains. But I think the chances for this is low as government knows the level of criticism it received from the implementation of SGT last year.

So this tax proposal will be in discussion tables for a while and chances are that the proposal will be withdrawn or at least profits from the sale of shares will be exempted. Why I say like that is in 2001-2004 period also the then UNF government was trying to bring this tax back and apply it for stock market. But after many attempts they realized the practical problems of implementing this tax. The main problem was how to identify the correct cost prices for share sold due to investors do a series of buys under different price levels with the object to average costs when share price come down. They will sell a portion of shares when the selling price is above the average cost but they can always claim that the cost of such shares sold as the higher band cost so for the perspective of tax calculation the investor has realized a loss but actually he has made a gain. This was the key practical difficulty. Another one was to identify the correct price when an investor buys a share at cum-div and sale ex-div. Though investor realized a profit due to his dividend income he can claim for a loss as the price adjusts downward after ex-div date.

By considering all of these government will decide to withdraw this tax or exempt stock market from this tax or may be reimplement share transaction levy again.

So my advice is you don't need to panic extra on the impact of CGT but just focus on trading based on value on offer. Try to buy valuable stocks when they are in free fall and sell when they move up. This week so far we have seen this type of sea-saw trading on shares like ALUF,SFL,TAFL,GRAN,BFL,PARQ,LITE,etc. Investors could earn above 10% profit within this week itself if they closely watch the market for the past three days. Today also will not be that much difference. Identify the good counters and trade.
