This is fundamentally strong but slightly overly valued share.
Wonder whether they can repeat last year profits in 2011?

Sadly many people in Sri Lanka believe that if a company is strong then that company must have a over 20 P/E value.

That is one of the biggest curse to the modern day local market.

BRWN 1Q2011http://www.cse.lk/cmt/upload_report_file/764_1306838541659.%20PLC-31.03.2011.pdf

GROUP Profit for the period 144.06 Millions PROFIT

Attributed to;
Equity Holders of the company -459.96 Millions LOSS---------Group EPS -6.49
Miniority Interest .................. 604.02 Millions PROFIT

This is bit rare situation, where the minioriy share holders of the group enjoyes huge profit, while major share shareholders incurred a loss. Is this possible????

Yes. When PROFIT reported by one/or more entities which have substantial miniority interest (e.g. Browns & Co. owned only 51%) while huge LOSS reported by entities which are having no or less miniority shareholders (e.g. Browns & Co. owned about 100%-90%).

If this is the case, we have to identified which entities incurred such a huge loss during the 1Q2011. then findout the reasons for that... whether they are recurrent or one-off losses.... etc.
Without knowing facts we should not get panic and decide on sell/buy this fundermental sound stock ... we saw one time SMB Stockbrokers published (before relesing last financials) a research report predicting BRWN value about 680/- in a midiem/long term.

Decleration: I have BRWN in my PF (about 10%) ave. price of 275/-. Therefore my views may be bias.[b][/quote]

Within a year price shot up to Rs 400 from just Rs 100. Agreed they somehow showed 185% growth in profits last year. Please dont let these companies shares prices to grow like a broiler chicken. This is one of the few golden companies we have in CSE. I never said or not going to say " do not invest in BROWN".

There are many suspicious counters in the CSE. Those prices can go up or down without any reason what so ever. This is not an unusual thing in a market. These things were happened in the past, Present and also will happen in the future.

But I hope all the fundamentally strong shares will not follow these sort counters.
LET THE PRICES GROW NATURALLY.

BTW: Do not expect high 2011/2012 Q1 results from Browns. Banking sector right issues & Some hotel refurbishments will hurt the bottom line.

Brown & company holds 12.4M Seylan bank voting shares.
Browns investment holds 1.7M Seylan bank non-voting shares
Browns & company holds 13.2M HNB voting shares

When you have sometimes in next few days calculate how much this gonna cost Browns.

Last 3 day trading pattern suggest a swing movement.. actually a swing point low.. We could've bought this ard 310 to benefit from an uptrend..
Monday movements will be crucial.. looking to enter? I think 310-325 would be the low levels..
Not a buy decision in any form... this is just a pattern exploration..
